Swallowtail: A little embellishment goes a long way

Swallowtail stamp - Clean & Simple note card ideas, simple to embellish

I think in all my years of stamping, I’ve only seen 1-2 stamps EVER that come close to meeting the beauty of the Swallowtail stamp (see it online – 129216).

These easy note cards are created using the Note Cards & Envelopes (see them online).  I absolutely adore using the Note Cards for elegant yet simple projects.

I know the Swallowtail image is huge — nearly bigger than a standard card front (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″). Don’t let it intimidate you!

Here are a few of my suggestions for using it:

  • Use only a portion of the butterfly (like in the samples here)
  • Go monochromatic – a single color shows off the beauty in the stamp perfectly
  • Heat emboss the butterfly – be sure to use high end embossing powder (like from Stampin’ Up!) to capture all the detail

Happy Stamping!

Really? Only A Black Ink Pad?

Sometimes you just don’t have a lot of supplies on hand, and it feels like whatever you want to make just can’t happen because you don’t have what you *need*.  But sometimes you have to be the MacGyver of card making, and create what you want out of two paperclips and a piece of string.

Remember MacGyver?  If he can do all that with the scary haircut, then I’m sure we can do it, too!

For The Birds is a terrific all-occasions stamp set (see it online) and with the SITM Club Kit, you’ll get the stamp set as well as everything you need to make the skating bird card above – precut, pre-embossed and with the embellishments all ready to use.

So think of my Stamps in the Mail Club like the MacGyver kit of stamping… you have some great supplies on hand (I promise, it’s more than a paperclip and string) but the projects you’ll create will astound you!

There’s a quick technique tip in this card, too.

  • Paper Piecing: When you only have limited ink colors on hand, use pieces of colored Designer Series Paper or card stock to add the color to your black stamped images.  (like the scarf on the sweet skating bird)

It’s not too late to sign up for Stamps in the Mail Club this round — and this is the only holiday card in the bunch, so you’ll have plenty of time to create at your leisure this winter.

Happy Stamping!

For The Birds is a terrific all-occasions stamp set (see it online) and with the SITM Club Kit, you’ll get the stamp set as well as everything you need to make the pennant banner card below.  These pennant banners are uber-popular right now.  They’re everywhere!

The plus side is that banners like this are uber-simple to create.  The papers featured in this banner are all from the World Spectacular Designer Series Paper (see it online).

Sign-ups for the November Stamps in the Mail Club are still available — be sure to sign up today so your kit will arrive sooner!!

Happy Stamping!

Holiday Stockings: Goody Goody Gift Bags

Need another gift packaging idea?  Check out the ones I’ve posted recently (click here) or here’s another fun idea.  Start with a white lunch sack, add a half sheet of card stock to the front and the back, embellish with a die cut Snowflake (see it online) and Holiday Stocking (see it online) and a little Silver Glimmer Paper (see it online).

From the side you can see that I’ve cut down the gift bag to about 6-1/2″ so the card stock tops come together nicely.  Add a Ruffled Ribbon, Designer Brad and you’re set!

This project was one of my Stamps in the Mail Club Projects from October.  You might have missed that Round, but the good news is that the NEW Round is signing up now!  Beginning in November, we’ll have a whole new 3 months of projects & tips that you can have delivered to your doorstep.  Be sure to check out the details and sign up today!
