Well, Cross My Heart and Send Me A Valentine!
Need a quick classroom craft for next week? A valentine idea for your kids to make at home? Here’s a sweet (ha!) one that doesn’t take much time. It uses the Cross My Heart stamp set (see it online) that I shared yesterday for the birthday card.
Just trim out a doily heart from the More Amore Designer Series Paper (see the paper online – 129309) and punch another heart from the paper to layer. Attach your finished pieces to a flat lollipop and tie a ribbon!
Stamping Tips & Tricks to remember:
- Use your Stampin’ Write Markers (the broad tip) to color directly on a stamp in several different colors for a multi-color image like on the crossword puzzle. (see the Stampin’ Write Markers online)
- With Stampin’ Write Markers, color the lighter colors first and don’t worry about detail. Use a darker marker next and color over anything you want to be darker. The dark color will cover up the lighter ink just fine.
- For a tiny stamped image that you want to punch out (like the elephant), remember to stamp first, then punch. It’s easy to use the Stampin’ Up! punches upside down so you can see through the window and center your image. (see punch selection online)

Patterned Occasions: perfect for sweet & simple
Patterned Occasions (129624 – see it online) is one of the fab stamp sets available for free during Sale-A-Bration — learn more — and I’ve been having a good time with these sweet & simple cards.
This is actually a really simple card, with a really simple set of supplies. Here’s what you’d need to make these cards:
- Designer Series Paper of your choice (check the selections online)
- Stampin’ Write Markers to match (the colors of the paper are listed in the online store — so easy to match!)
- 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch (118874 - see it online)
- 1-3/4″ Circle Punch (119850 – see it online)
- Ribbon embellishment (for universal match, go with White or Vanilla)
- Rhinestone embellishment (they’re sticky! 119246 - see them online)
Add some card stock, and you’re all set to make cards for any occasion! And the Patterned Occasions stamp set (see it online) is a freebie when you’ve picked out $50 in other items. You can add it to your order online after you’ve put at least $50 in your shopping cart.
Curious about my card stock and designer paper choices? Here’s what I used:
- Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper (127540 – another freebie SAB item with a $50 order)
- Whisper White Card Stock (a must-have staple, 40 fabulous sheets in a package – 100730)
- Crumb Cake Card Stock (another staple color, I couldn’t stamp without it – 120953)
- Island Indigo Card Stock (get it as a full pack of 24 sheets or in the In Color Assortment)
Sometimes simple is best — and I’m in love with the little band-aid in this stamp set!

Perfect Holiday Treats: Cute, Clever & Quick with the Petal Card Punch
Looking for a fun treat to make for holiday gifts? You know, the ones you always think about making to hand out to neighbors you see at the Post Office, or the clerk at the grocery store who always says something nice to you?
Oh wait – you haven’t gotten around to making those? Really? Well let me help you!! This is a really quick, really easy project that doesn’t use many supplies and is sure to put a smile on the face and in the heart of anyone who receives it from you!
Plus you can make about 20 of them in under an hour. That’s 20 smiles to share – won’t it feel great to share that happiness?
(click the photo for a larger view)
See how they fit together? The Petal Card Double Punch (see it online) is a perfect size for making little treat holders for the “minis” size of chocolates (Mmmmm….).
Here’s what you’ll do (picture yourself sharing these with friends!):
- Punch two petal card pieces for each candy. Place the candy inside one, put dabs of glue on three tabs of the other punched piece. Fold up and hold to adhere.
- Punch out ovals with the Small Oval Punch (see it online) from the Champagne Glimmer Paper (see it online)
- Stamp little trees (or another design) with the Merry Minis stamp set (see it online) and punch them with the matching Merry Minis Punch Pack (see them online).
- Layer all the pieces and put three treats into a perfectly sized 4 x 6″ Cellophane Bag (see them online).
- Tie with a piece of the sweet 1/4″ Sweater Trim (see it online).
- Add a cute little tag — if you don’t know who you’re going to give this to, then write something like “For You” instead of a specific name. Add a glimmer star with the Merry Minis Punch Pack (from above) and you’re all done!
So what do you think? I know you can do it!! If you make little treats to share this season, let me know – I’d love to hear about the smiles you’re spreading! And if you see me at the post office or at the IGA, maybe I’ll still have some left to share with you in person.
Looking for color ideas? Here’s what I used (click to shop for each):
Gumball Green: Stampin’ Write Marker (126856), Card Stock (126840), Classic Pad (126861)

Bootiful Occasions: Witchy Wishes
From my first look through the new catalog (the one that came out June 1st), I think the Bootiful Occasions stamp set (see the full set) was the one that jumped out at me. You could say it walked right off the page and onto my stamp shelf!
Here’s a Halloween card that’s fun for birthdays (“Happy Boot day”) or pretty much any occasion. Plus the winter boot in the set is perfect for the coming time of year… best not to think too hard about that coming season… just stock up on stamps
Did you see the gray ribbon on the card? I love that ribbon — it’s tucked away in the Holiday Catalog, but you can see it here online.

Stamping for a Shrimp Boil: “bring a side dish to share”
How many event invitations come with the message: “bring a dish to pass” or something along those lines? Seems like lots. And they’re great, because everyone brings their favorite recipe, all ready to eat!
This past weekend my family and I attended a Shrimp Boil (yum!) and I took along a fruit salsa recipe that I love. After I made it and looked at it in the bowl though, I couldn’t tell if anyone would know what exactly it was.
So in the 4 minutes my family was putting on shoes to go out the door, I made a quick sign!
The Perfectly Preserved stamp set (see it online) was perfect for my dish! And the Orchard Harvest Designer Series Paper (see it online) complemented the colors beautifully (plus I love that paper!).
Interested in the recipe? The Mango Strawberry Salsa is sweet with a nice tang – yum! I usually make it with whatever I have on hand. Here’s the recipe for the one I made up this weekend.
Mango Strawberry Salsa
- 1 cup frozen corn (frozen – it thaws on its own)
- 1 cup chopped strawberries
- 1 medium tomato (chopped, then drain)
- 1/2 cup chopped dried mango
- 1/2 cup chopped red onion
- 2 dashes apple cider vinegar

Googly Ghouls Hit The Street
Do you love Trick-or-Treaters? Then you’re going to be a fan of this fun card featuring the Googly Ghouls stamp set (see it online) and the Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series Paper (see it online). Three cute costumed kids, walking down the street to share a “boo!” with you!
Steps to making your own trick-or-treat street:
- Stamp the 3 characters
- Use a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker and a straight edge to draw the street a little bit below the kids
- Draw the top edge of the street at a slight angle, stopping your lines at the characters
- Use a More Mustard Stampin’ Write Marker to draw the dotted line in the middle of the street. After all, on Halloween, the kids rule the street!

Watercolor How-To: Magic Tips to Use
The most common thing I hear when I demonstrate watercoloring is that people can’t seem to make it look “right”. Guess what? There are some easy tricks that will make your watercolor look ‘right’ every time. Here’s a card that we made at stamp club last week, using the soon-to-be-retired Beary Best Friends stamp set (see it online).
Beary Best Friends and the matching Beary Nice Wishes set (see it online) will be available along with the rest of the Build-A-Bear Product Suite (see it online) but only until May 31st (learn about the retiring items & sale).
The bear is on the inside of the card — peeking through the window!
Tips to make your watercolor look fantastic:
- Use Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Paper for best effects. I know, it sounds like I just want you to buy paper from me… but I’ve tried other papers from big craft stores, and they just don’t work right. If you want to be successful, it’s important to start with good quality materials.
- Draw a small line with a Stampin’ Write Marker where you want color to be darkest.
- Use Aqua Painters to wet the line and move the color around on the paper – leave blank spots to get an authentic watercolor effect.
- Remember that you can always add more color, but it’s tricky to remove color if you start with too much.
- Outline with River Rock Stampin’ Write Marker & blend to finish. This will keep your image ‘anchored’ to the paper and add dimension to the background so that it doesn’t look flat.
