Gift Bag Video Tutorial: Last Minute Ideas for Christmas

Are you getting close to “done” with your Christmas prep?  Here’s a last-minute Video Minute with Meg that will give you a fun way to turn your extra Christmas cards into gift bag toppers.

Here’s all you’ll need:

  • Christmas card
  • Gift bag (or paper lunch sack)
  • Ribbon of your choice (bonus points if it matches your card!)
  • Hole punch (I used the Little Labels Punch Pack for extra flair – see it online)

And of course, you don’t need to limit yourself to only Christmas!  This last-minute minute also works for birthday gifts, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.

Curious about the card itself?  Here’s the original project with details and supply lists on my blog.

Or looking for more packaging ideas?  I am a huge fan of gift bags & boxes!  Here are more ‘boxes & bags’ ideas from my blog.

Happy Stamping!

Merry & Type: Texture all the way

For my Christmas Card Stamp A Stack last evening, I wanted to pull out the Merry & Type stamp set (see it online).  I love the vintage feel of the ornaments — and what says 1930′s more than houndstooth? The Houndstooth Textured Impressions Folder came in handy as a design element (see it online).

Did you see the layered border effect on the left side of the card?  The vertical elements on this card are basically a series of borders, including the Champagne Glimmer Paper (see it online – a little goes a long way!) and the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online).

You’re Amazing: The happy birthday elephant set

Have you seen this little elephant peeking out at you yet from the You’re Amazing stamp set (see it online)?

He’s my favorite image from the 2012-2013 Stampin’ Up! catalog.  Last year there was a fun elephant in a hostess-exclusive set, so I’m excited that EVERYONE can get this guy!

And really, what’s more fun than an elephant in a party hat?

The elephant paper is from the World Spectacular Designer Series Paper (see it online) and it’s my new favorite DSP.  There are 12 matching patterns in the paper series, and I love every one of them!

Time for confessions… do you find yourself hoarding Designer Series Paper?  Are you afraid to cut into a sheet for fear of needing it more at a later date?  I totally used to be that way, too.

Here’s my challenge for you… re-create this card, and use ANY DSP you have on hand — just try it.  Match your card stock colors to the DSP you choose, but copy the design.  Add a greeting (it doesn’t even have to be birthday — maybe try a Christmas card!), then leave me a comment.  You can even send me a picture!

Go on –  you know you want to try it.  It’s a simple card layout, and you’ll love the results AND start to get over your fear of cutting into a piece of DSP :)

Here are the card dimensions you’ll need:

  • Card Base (Whisper White): 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
  • Card Front (Island Indigo): 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Scallop Border Strip (Daffodil Delight): 1″ x 5 1/4″, punched
  • Designer Series Paper (World Spectacular DSP): 2″ x 5 1/4″
  • Banner (Whisper White): 1 1/2″ x 4″, trimmed

While you’re at it with your Designer Series Paper, here are a whole lot MORE ideas from my blog on how to put your DSP to work!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Happy Stamping!

When You Need 250 Christmas Cards…

How many Christmas cards are you planning to make this year?  When you’re thinking of making a large number (whether 40 or 400) then it’s important to pick the right design and layout.

Here’s a great card for duplicating – for several reasons:

  • Card Base: it’s the Note Cards & Envelopes (see them online) so they come 20 to a package, pre-scored and with envelopes included
  • Ribbon: you can get your roll for free with a September order of $40 or more – (shop now or click to learn more). Plus the knot is low-profile and shouldn’t cost extra postage to mail
  • Stamps: the simple stamping with the Ornament Keepsakes stamp set (see it online) will be speedy and have a terrific impact – the bold images are perfect!

Looking for other ideas for Christmas card layouts you can make in large numbers?  Here are a few links to past projects on my blog:

1 Set of Supplies: 4 Card Ideas

The Outlined Occasions stamp set is a terrific addition (especially for free!) to a stamping stash.  The set includes some great words, perfect to complement a ‘fun’ color scheme or designer series paper.

Don’t forget that you only have 3 days left to order during Sale-A-Bration!

This card is based on the Note Cards & Envelopes (see them online) which come 20 to a pack, for only $5.95 (pretty nice, plus they’re convenient to have on hand).  I made a couple of layers and scalloped the bottoms to add some interest.  The words are stamped and colored with the matching Stampin’ Write Markers.

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • 123002 In Color Markers 2011-2013 $14.95
  • 122940 In Color Printed Brads $7.95
  • 124329 In Color Assorted Card Stock 2011-2013 $6.95
  • 119882 Scallop Edge Border Punch $15.95
  • 107311 Note Cards & Envelopes (20) $5.95

And guess what?  The total of bundle before shipping and tax = $51.75, which means you get to pick out a stamp set for free (like the Outlined Occasions set!) with your order, as long as you order before the end of the day on March 31st.

And even more convenient, when you order this from me, I’ll send you a pdf tutorial with directions and cutting sizes to make 4 different cards with this same set of supplies!

Here are some samples from my blog:

Just remember to place your order before March 31st — after March 31st, the Sale-A-Bration special is over!

Monochromatic Cards: Fresh Vintage in Black & White

When was the last time you did a card without color?  Sometimes a monochromatic card (“one color”) or a black & white card is a refreshing change of pace.  Here’s a card featuring the Fresh Vintage stamp set (available as a Sale-A-Bration reward with a $50 order right now).

The card was started on a Note Card & Envelope base (see them online) (yes, I’m addicted to them — here are a whole bunch of ideas on my blog).  I cut 1″ off the front of the notecard, then used the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online) at the edge of a piece of Basic Black card stock and stamped the Fresh Vintage flourish on the inside of the note card.

Perfect embellishments for this card — Jewels Pearls in three sizes, and the Scallop Polka Dot Ribbon in Basic Black.  Yup, it comes in other colors too, but this was perfect for the B&W look.  If you’re trying to match the Scallop Circle size, it’s the 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch.   Just add with Dimensionals, and you’re set!

Be sure to check out my other Sale-A-Bration set ideas, or some of my other monochromatic card ideas.

SAB: Sweet & Simple Sprinkled Expressions

It’s Sale-A-Bration!  You might have heard me mention that already, since it’s my fav part of the stamping year.  Here’s a card that I created back in December for my LovenStampfuls Demo Group Holiday Party (check out the party).  Yup, we were playing with Sale-A-Bration free stamp sets back before Christmas.  Feels like that was at least 4 months ago, right? Time flies!  And actually, if you’d like to learn more about joining my Demonstrator family, now is a great time with the special! (learn more)

Here’s a ‘sweet and simple’ card using the pre-cut/pre-scored Note cards & Envelopes (see them online).  I used the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online) at the bottom edge, then put a layer of Sweet Shop Designer Specialty Paper (see it online) underneath to peek out the bottom.

Stamp set?  It’s the Sale-A-Bration exclusive set, Sprinkled Expressions (available for free when you order $50 any time between now and March 31st).  If you’ve never experienced the joy of Sale-A-Bration, be sure to check out the details here!

The heart is stamped on the front on the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch layer and the greeting is inside: “LOVE you just the way you are”.  The coordinating Calypso Coral Ruffled Ribbon is a perfect match!

I’m completely in LOVE with the Note Cards & Envelopes — here are a whole bunch of ideas on my blog for using them.  They’re ready to go whenever I need them–pre-scored with envelopes included.  And the smaller card size makes the ‘sweet & simple’ style easy to execute.

Sweet & Simple: Brighten a Friday

I’ve told you before how my friend Margo always puts a sweet enclosure in any envelopes she sends to me.  So when I send a quick note or a check for a PTO/school activity, I try to follow Margo’s lead and tuck a quick stamped tidbit into my envelope.

Here’s a little note (finished size 1-1/2″ x 3″) that I CASE’d from my fellow demonstrator Shelley Rairden.  She used a retired stamp set, so I adapted it for the Pocket Silhouettes stamp set (see it online) and copied her use of the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (see it online).

So sweet, and so simple!  Three little tiny pearls from the Jewels Pearls add the perfect touch, and the Scallop Edge Border Punch dresses up the bottom edge.

Colors? Poppy Parade, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, and Lucky Limeade.

Next time you sit down to stamp, make a handful of quick and cute little enclosures to share a stamping smile and brighten a few days!

Happy Stamping!
