Make Your Own Family Valentine Banner
What says “love” more than family? I created a fun and simple banner using My Digital Studio 2 (learn more about it) and the Valentine Love Ensemble Download (see it now) from Stampin’ Up!.
The basic design work is already done for you with this sweet template. It’s simple to add a few extra panels, photos of your family or friends, embellish with digital embellishments, then print at home! Cut out, add a ribbon, and you’re set for a quick and fun memory project that will brighten your home!
Want to learn the details of the ‘how to’ on this project? Good news! I have an MDS with Meg Tutorial for you!
There are 3 lessons for this banner — you may find that you only need a few minutes of the first one if you’re an MDS user already. If you’re new to MDS, you’ll probably like the detail in all the lessons.
(getting this feed via email? you’ll need to click to visit my blog to get the videos)

Meg’s MDS Minute: How to Color Your Stamps
Last evening was my monthly Laptops & Lattes class, and we created a fun card using My Digital Studio 2 (check out the free 30-day trial). When I teach an MDS Class, my favorite method is to start with a pre-made card and re-create it in MDS. That way we can focus on using the program, rather than have to think about the ‘art’ at the same time.
So this month’s card came from my basket of swaps, and it was created in ‘real’ card stock by my friend Jill Hilliard. She used the Up, Up & Away stamp set, but we modified it a bit to feature the digital Adventure Awaits stamp set that is included with MDS2.
The balloons are colored with two different colors — it’s a new feature of MDS2! If you have MDS and want to try an update, you can download a free 30 day trial of MDS2 and decide if you’d like to upgrade your program. I have a list of your options on my blog here.
Here’s a video tutorial on coloring your digital stamps:
The inside of the card has both panels colored – you can see how that will look in the ‘check project’ tool.
You can check out some of the past MDS projects on my blog. And even with the fun new features, you’ll be able to continue using my step-by-step MDS Tutorials (free on my blog!), both Video and PDF.

MDS2 & Facebook: Wishing You a Happy Birthday
Do you love to wish people a happy birthday on Facebook? If you’re looking for a fun way to send special wishes to your friends, here’s an idea using My Digital Studio!
I created this little note to post on a friend’s FB wall. Word art is sooooo popular right now – try using MDS2 to create a fun greeting to share. Here’s how I made this one:
- I started with the “Celebrate Any Day” designer template for a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″ card (it’s a Digital Download set that you can download and add to your MDS or MDS2 program – see it online)
- After creating the project, I used “Change Project Size/Type…” under the Edit menu and converted it to a Custom Project that was 3 x 3″.
- The heart embellishment only came in chocolate and green, so I recolored it to match the banner (love that NEW MDS2 feature!)
- I added some drop shadows, a voice bubble and a stamped greeting
- Last, I used the “Share Project” tool to export my creation as a .jpg and then posted it to my friend’s wall! Happy Birthday greetings!!
So next time you want to write a Happy Birthday post, here’s my challenge to you — create it with MDS2 and share your digital love!!

MDS Monday: 15 Reasons I Heart this MDS Tutorial
Going on a trip this summer? Have a cute kid/dog/friend/spouse/garden gnome? Looking for an inexpensive and easy way to showcase some photos? You *need* to make an MDS Swatchbook with the Reasons I Heart You Digital Template (see it online).
Here’s how it works:
Download the MDS program to your computer (try the FREE 30 day trial)- Design projects on your computer, using your own photos, with my FREE Step-By-Step My Digital Studio Tutorial (click here to download it – 12 MB)
- Use the “share your project” button in the program to send your project to my online store
- Purchase the finished swatchbook ($12.95 for 13 pages <26 sides> and plastic covers)
- Stampin’ Up! mails your swatchbook to you!
The finished 13 pages (26 sides) have a plastic page on the front and back to protect your swatch book. The pages themselves are a nice heavy paper with a slick coating that stands up really nicely to “purse abuse” (that’s the markings that usually come from having something float around in your purse for a few weeks
Here are a few more of my pages (you can see the ALL in my Reasons I Heart You Tutorial):
I can’t believe I haven’t shared this project on my blog yet! It’s been in my queue for months (since April) and I’ve shown the finished printed Swatchbook to lots of people in person. If you’re looking for a project that will inspire you to try My Digital Studio (aka MDS), then I think this is the project.
Originally I shared this project at a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Training event — I’d love to have you join my Stampin’ Up! family, too! You can learn more about how to get My Digital Studio as part of your “My Way” Demonstrator Kit here on my website.
Want to check out another of my MDS Tutorial Series? I have a 4-lesson MDS Tutorial Series (WITH VIDEOS!!) on the Sweet Details Digital Photobook Template (included with the MDS Express Free Trial). You can find the first lesson here on my blog.

MDS with Meg: Sweet Details Photobook, Lesson 1
Chapter 1: Getting Started on Your Sweet Details 11 x 8.5″ Photobook
So are you ready? Have you downloaded My Digital Studio and installed it yet? Join me in February and make a Sweet Details Photobook that you’ll cherish for years! MDS Express is FREE for a 30 day trial period, and I’m here to help you make the most of your 30 days. Of course if you decide you need to keep it longer than 30 days, that’s fine — you can definitely do that. But at least use your 30 days to make a fun photobook with me.
Just think of how proud you’ll be to share this album with family and friends. And I promise, it will be painless, whether you’re a digital whiz or not. With the MDS Sweet Details Template, all you need is to fill in some photos and update journaling to match.
Note — if you already own MDS, you’ll need to purchase the Sweet Details Digital Photobook Template (see it online) to follow along and make your book. For $17.95, it’s a fun addition to your MDS resources! Don’t forget that MDS Digital Downloads don’t have a shipping charge!
Why not give it a try?
Be sure to leave me a comment if you’re taking the challenge — friends don’t let friends scrap alone!
First, gather some photos from 2011. They don’t have to be all from the same event, they don’t even have to be in order. That’s the beauty of digital design — you can reorder them later, or not! We’re going to build a FAVORITE MOMENTS album for 2011. So get ready, and join the fun!
Would you like a printable Tutorial for getting started on this book? You can download my free MDS with Meg: Sweet Details Tutorial. My Digital Studio: want to try it for free?
Good news, Stampin’ Up! fans!! Starting today our friends, family, neighbors—anyone and everyone—can download a free 30-day trial of My Digital Studio Express.
This was news to us at the Leadership Conference in San Antonio last month, and I’ve been SO excited about sharing it! As you may know, I am a HUGE fan of MDS (My Digital Studio). So be sure to keep an eye out on my blog for the next 2 weeks, as I share my progress (and tips) on building your first project in MDS.
My Digital Studio Express 30-Day Trial:
With the FREE trial, you’ll get:
Full access to the software at NO COST for 30 days.- Full design functionality.
- Exclusive artwork that comes with My Digital Studio Express. See included content here.
- Opportunity to purchase additional downloads from designer templates to stamp brush sets–and everything in between.
- Access to our professional print services.
Once your trial period expires, simply log onto my online store again if you want to purchase the downloadable or disc version of the software to continue enjoying My Digital Studio.
Quick Facts:
- Is MDS just for scrapbooking? — No way! You can make greeting cards, calendars, tags, pretty much anything you want to do with digital design.
- Can I print at home during the trial? — Yes! You can print both at home or by using the Stampin’ Up! Professional Printing.
- What happens to my work after the trial? – Your copy of MDS will still be on your computer, but you’ll need to purchase the Express Software ($39.95) or the Full Software ($79.95) to access your projects in the MDS program. Anything you saved as a jpg will still be yours.
- What should I do during my 30 day trial? — My advice? Work on an 11 x 8.5″ Sweet Details Photobook. The template is all ready for you in MDS, and I’ll be stepping you through the ‘what to do’ over the next 2 weeks. At the end of your work you’ll have a photobook, ready to send for Professional Printing. The cost is $29.95 for a softcover photo book, and you’re going to be ‘wow’d’ by what you’ve created with the help of MDS.
Hope you’re as excited about this as I am! Got more questions? Here are the answers. And when you’re ready to download, here’s the link to download. Be sure my name is at the top right of your screen, so you know you’re shopping with me.

My Digital Studio: Now in 3-D!
And you don’t even have to wear those silly cardboard glasses!
When you design cards or scrapbook pages with My Digital Studio (see it online), you don’t have to call a project ‘finished’ once you print it at home or get it in the mail from Stampin’ Up!’s Professional Printer (learn more about Professional Printing). You can still stamp, embellish and layer til your project is perfect.
Here is a card that I created in My Digital Studio using the Modern Label Punch (see it online) to add an extra layer and dimension:
I am in love with the flourish image from the Bliss stamp set (see it online) and being able to use it in My Digital Studio is even more exciting! Because while the actual stamp is only about 2.5″ wide, I can make my MDS flourish as wide as I want–here it’s nearly 8″ wide!
**MDS TIP** Here’s how to get the Shadow Stamping look in My Digital Studio:
- ‘Stamp’ the flourish once in Sahara Sand and use the gray drag handle at the corner to make the image as large as you want
- Copy the flourish, then use the “Paste in Place” command to paste it right on top of the first flourish
- Change the color of the new flourish to Early Espresso
- Move the new image a little bit to the right and down
Yes, the Rhinestone is real. I added it to my card after I punched the Modern Label Punch piece and added it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Be sure to check out some of my other recent My Digital Studio projects.
The Bliss stamp set for this card is from the So Much to Sale-A-Brate Digital Content CD (see it online) which is only available as a free Sale-A-Bration selection from now until March 31st when you place a $50 order. (click here to browse the catalog or place an online order)
Don’t forget that you also get a free Idea & Inspiration Sheet (available only through Meg) when you place your Sale-A-Bration order! (learn more about the MDS Tutorial I&I Sheet)
