Build A Cupcake: Punch Art Gift Tags
A few weeks ago I shared this fun little Take-Out Box gift with the Create A Cupcake stamp set tag. The box itself is built from the Petal Cone Die for Big Shot (check out some other Petal Cone Die ideas).
The Create A Cupcake stamp set (see it online) and the matching Build A Cupcake Punch (see it online) are two of my fav items from the Mini Catalog. This tag and take-out box (via the Petal Cone Die–see it online) are projects from my recent Stampin’ Up! Workshops.

So what is this? A Funky Four Technique Tutorial, or a Funky Five? Well, there are more ways to use glitter than just 4, so I figured I’d add another card today.
Today’s card is a design from Kim Peck, and uses the Heat & Stick Powder (see it online) as the glue to hold the Supernova Fine Glitter on the card (see it online).
The chocolate glitter (there are 5 choices in the package) is a perfect match for the Chocolate Chip card stock here.
Want to know a secret? If you don’t know how to use your Heat N Stick Powder, you’re not alone! I get asked a lot of questions about stamping, but how to use Heat N Stick Powder is definitely in the top 5.
So never fear, I can help you figure this out. You’ll be making your own glittery mushrooms in no time!
**How to Use Heat and Stick Powder:**
- Stamp your image in Versamark Ink
- Pour Heat N Stick Powder over your stamped image.
- GENTLY tap excess powder off the card stock. Note: this powder is more granular than embossing powder. If you tap too vigorously, too much will fall off your image and you’ll have spotty glitter in the end.
- Use the Heat Tool (see it online) to melt your powder. Note: melting happens quickly! Don’t overheat your powder or it will lose stickiness. Melt only until you see the powder go from white to clear.
- Pour glitter over the melted powder and tap excess glitter back into container.
- Use Heat Tool to briefly set the glitter. This takes about the same amount of heat/time as when you melted the powder in the first place. Brush away any stray glitter.

Funky Four Day 4: Dazzling Diamond Dust
Grab your Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder (see it online) and your VersaMark Ink Pad (see it online) and you’re set for this next technique!
Okay, you might also want your Heat Tool (see it online), but you probably already figured that out. Get ready for Dazzling Diamond Dust. This is a fabulous way to make some fun panels for your projects.
For Day 4 of the Funky Four Glitter Technique Series, the technique is one that can be applied to any card. Here’s what you need to know…
Dazzling Diamond Dust Technique
- Stamp your images on a card stock panel
- Applying your pad directly to the card stock, cover your panel with Versamark Ink
- Pour Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder over the card stock and tap off excess
- Melt powder with Heat Tool and add panel to your project

Glitter Strip: Day 3 of the Funky Four Technique Series
Ready for Day 3 of the Funky Four Glitter Series? (Yes, I have 4 cards for the ‘funky four’…so one more for tomorrow!) You can still check out Day 1 and Day 2 if you missed them!
Quick notes: The mushrooms are colored here with Stampin’ Write Markers, and the colors come directly from the Play Date Designer Series Paper: Real Red, Old Olive, So Saffron and Tempting Turquoise. The DSPs in the Stampin’ Up! catalog are a GREAT source of color inspiration, whether you are using that particular paper on your project or not. (see the papers online)
Today’s Glitter Technique is an easy one, too. Glittered Sticky Strip!
- Place a piece of Sticky Strip Adhesive on your project.
- Remove the red backing paper and pour the glitter over the top.
- Press glitter into the Sticky Strip to get the best coverage, then tap off excess glitter.
This is a great technique for a spot where you don’t want to tie a ribbon, but need that extra ‘something’.

Glitter Goes Everywhere: Even on Ribbons!
Remember the Bill Cosby commercials from the 80′s? He used to go around saying, “There’s always room for Jell-o!” Well I feel the same way about glitter. There’s always room for glitter!
This is another of my LovenStampfuls Demonstrator Class cards (you can still join my Stampin’ Up! family at a discount).
The card uses the Funky Four stamp set (see it online). The fun tweak though? It’s the Supernova Fine Glitter on the White Taffeta Ribbon.
If you’re looking to add more glitz to your card but aren’t sure where, this is a fun technique to try.
Glittery Ribbons Technique:
- Tie ribbon on card layer
- Use 2-Way Glue Pen to draw a line along the middle of the ribbon
- Shake Supernova Fine Glitter over the glue, tap off excess
Simple! And voila, glittery ribbons.

Crazy for Cupcakes: especially to build your own
Can you picture this? I walked out to my mailbox one day, opened the door and pulled out a pile of junk mail… plus… my Occasions Mini Catalog! I ran back to the house (because of my excitement, not necessarily because I was out at the curb with no shoes on in 10 degree weather) and my first flip-through of the catalog stopped right at page 22…
No way, matching CUPCAKE stamps and punch?! Too sweet! (pun intended)
Okay, you’ve got me. Yes, this experience may have been recreated for my blog (since we got to play with this cute stamp set back at the Founder’s Circle Retreat last fall) but really, can’t you imagine the excitement?

Meep Meep… What’s Up Doc?
Bugs Bunny would love these! Or maybe not, since there are no actual carrots involved. But Easter is coming, and bunnies of all age will love this fun Easter treat idea.
The cone is created from the Petal Cone Die (see it online) for the Big Shot (see it online), and the leafy greens at the top are from the half scallop circle on the same die.
I created the texture on the carrot with the Textures Plates Kit #4 (also for the Big Shot — see it online), and added the Fine Supernova Glitter (see it online) with the 2-Way Glue Pen (see it online).
Here is the Tutorial for this project:
- Die cut two Petal Cone pieces in Tangerine Tango, and texture each one with the paisley Texturz Plate. Trim off the half circles at the top of each piece. Use Sticky Strip to attach the pieces together.
- Cut 4 Wild Wasabi half Scallops and trim the last 2 scallops from each corner as shown. Cut between each scallop, leaving about 1/2″ uncut at the bottom. Attach with Sticky Strip to the ‘carrot’
- Use a 2-Way Glue Pen and Fine Supernova Glitter in orange to decorate your paisley.
- Assemble carrot. *TIP* The easiest way to assemble the box is to lay it flat and fold both ends to the center, attaching in the middle. The box will pop up perfectly aligned every time.
- On two opposite sides, trim away the ‘leaves’ to make room for your ribbon. Use a Crop-A-Dile to add a Jumbo Pewter Eyelet on each side.
- Tie the Peach Parfait Stitched Poly-Ribbon at each side.

Window on Watercolor: Highlights with Beveled Windowpanes
Beveled Window Panes (from the Occasions Mini Catalog — page 28) make a perfect focal point for projects. Here are a few tips for using them on your projects:
- Attach them with ribbons or by using Mini Glue Dots at the corners.
- Use a full piece of cardstock behind them or cut out a small shape to highlight.
- Consider making the most of the magnifying effect by adding a textured highlight such as Crochet Trim.
- Or focus the edges of the bevel by adding a thin band of colored Stampin’ Glitter with a 2-Way Glue Pen.
For this project, I used the Watercolor Wonder Crayons (Brights) and Aqua Painters to color the Sweet Summer Sale-A-Bration stamp set (see it online).
A key for working with Watercolor Wonder Crayons: use Watercolor Paper (see it online) for the easiest coloring. The Watercolor Paper can hold more liquid than Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock, and it’s much easier to move color around without damaging your work surface.

Formerly: Back-To-School Bargain, Now: Designer Notebook
Who doesn’t love a good sale? These spiral notebooks were $0.01 each in the back-to-school bargains last fall, and I couldn’t resist adding them to my “stamp-ables” collection.
Recently I posted one idea for covering the spiral, and here’s another suggestion: create a flexible spine by breaking all the cardstock fibers.
“Whaaa?” Don’t worry, I hear you 
The trick with card stock is that it wants to crease when it bends, rather than being flexible, like fabric would be. But because Stampin’ Up! card stock is so high-quality, you can actually get a material that acts more like fabric than card stock.
To get your card stock “fabric”, you are basically going to work your cardstock back and forth to break up the fibers in the cardstock and allow them to flex against each other. Not sure what I’m talking about? Just try it… you’ll see All you need to do is run your card stock through the Paper Crimper about 4-5 times. You can smooth out the crimps if you want (as I did here) but the fibers will be much more flexible, and perfect for the flexible spine here.
What else can you do with card stock “fabric”? You can make Faux Suede!! Yup, just keep working your cardstock back and forth (I like to run it against the edge of my Bone Folder, as if I were using that curling ribbon stuff you put on presents). When the edges of the card stock begin to separate, gently peel them apart. You’ll end up with two pieces of suede-looking paper.
My flowers here are punched from Faux Suede pieces.
Finally, I wanted to add a little bling to my notebook. Here’s where the Sticky Cuts Letters and the Fine Cosmo Stampin’ Glitter come in! The letters are a double-sided adhesive sheet, and super-easy to use. Just peel the backing, stick the letter, peel the top sheet and dump on the glitter.
Finally, the beautiful brocade design on the notebook front was created with the Kind Thoughts Brocade stencil from the Definitely Decorative catalog supplement. These stencils are a great way to cover large areas in a snap.

Scallop Square Pivot Card: I think I mentioned that you need this die?
Last week I showed you a fold-out card with the Scallop Square Die as a base. Here’s another fun way to use the Scallop Square Die: as part of a Pivot Card.
This card uses the Kissing Technique, and as I mention in the video, there is NO INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT in this tutorial. If you found my blog by Googling “kissing tutorials”, I think you’re going to be disappointed. 
The Medallion stamp (115223) here was the most popular stamp set ordered from the Stampin’ Up! catalog this fall. And it goes perfectly with the Supernova Glitter colors…but then I think everything goes with Glitter!
