You’re Amazing: The happy birthday elephant set
Have you seen this little elephant peeking out at you yet from the You’re Amazing stamp set (see it online)?
He’s my favorite image from the 2012-2013 Stampin’ Up! catalog. Last year there was a fun elephant in a hostess-exclusive set, so I’m excited that EVERYONE can get this guy!
And really, what’s more fun than an elephant in a party hat?
The elephant paper is from the World Spectacular Designer Series Paper (see it online) and it’s my new favorite DSP. There are 12 matching patterns in the paper series, and I love every one of them!
Time for confessions… do you find yourself hoarding Designer Series Paper? Are you afraid to cut into a sheet for fear of needing it more at a later date? I totally used to be that way, too.
Here’s my challenge for you… re-create this card, and use ANY DSP you have on hand — just try it. Match your card stock colors to the DSP you choose, but copy the design. Add a greeting (it doesn’t even have to be birthday — maybe try a Christmas card!), then leave me a comment. You can even send me a picture!
Go on – you know you want to try it. It’s a simple card layout, and you’ll love the results AND start to get over your fear of cutting into a piece of DSP
Here are the card dimensions you’ll need:
- Card Base (Whisper White): 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
- Card Front (Island Indigo): 4″ x 5 1/4″
- Scallop Border Strip (Daffodil Delight): 1″ x 5 1/4″, punched
- Designer Series Paper (World Spectacular DSP): 2″ x 5 1/4″
- Banner (Whisper White): 1 1/2″ x 4″, trimmed
While you’re at it with your Designer Series Paper, here are a whole lot MORE ideas from my blog on how to put your DSP to work!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Bootiful Occasions: Witchy Wishes
From my first look through the new catalog (the one that came out June 1st), I think the Bootiful Occasions stamp set (see the full set) was the one that jumped out at me. You could say it walked right off the page and onto my stamp shelf!
Here’s a Halloween card that’s fun for birthdays (“Happy Boot day”) or pretty much any occasion. Plus the winter boot in the set is perfect for the coming time of year… best not to think too hard about that coming season… just stock up on stamps
Did you see the gray ribbon on the card? I love that ribbon — it’s tucked away in the Holiday Catalog, but you can see it here online.

Short & Sweet Birthdays: Moving Forward
Need a quick birthday idea? Here’s a fun card using the Big Shot for the shape and the background, and a sweet stamp set for the design: Moving Forward (see it online).
The Moving Forward set is a great all-occasion stamp set, plus when you purchase it, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. To date, Stampin’ Up! has donated well over $1 million to RMHC from the sale of a special stamp set each year.
Ronald even attended the Stampin’ Up! Convention one year to help kick off the sponsorship program!

Make A Monster: Teacher Birthday Cards
When you’re 4 (and a half!) and you’re a boy, what’s the first thing to come to mind when you’re making a birthday card for your preschool teacher? Why, the Make A Monster stamp set, of course!
My son loves to stamp with me, and BY FAR his favorite set is Make A Monster (see it online – clear 120606 or wood 118742). He made this card ALL by himself — the only help I gave him was folding the card and trimming the edge. Don’t you love his creativity??
We have this set in Clear Mount, which concerned me a bit. Would he be able to manage putting each stamp on a block to use it? Would stamps get lost in the process of kid creation time?
The answer is that he does GREAT with this set, even with the tiny pieces. One of our solutions for keeping everything together is to keep the big rubber ‘background’ when I mount a set. That way even a 4 year old can easily see if he’s put all the pieces away or if there’s a stray antennae somewhere on the floor.
To make it easy for the pieces to stick to the block, I teach him how to mount the stamps:
- Put the stamp on the table, rubber side down.
- Press the clear block to the back of the stamp and count to 5.
I also cheat just a little — I add a smudge of 2-Way Glue Pen (see it online) to the block, just to give it a little bit of extra sticky. It’s the perfect amount of stick/release for the clear blocks, especially in the winter when dry climates make clear mount stamps tricky.
By the way, be sure to check out our Make A Monster Charm Bracelets from this past summer — they were a huge hit at Summer Scrap Camp for Kids! And not just for boys–the junior high girls LOVED this stamp set, too
Okay, and I just have to share his signature. Don’t you love little kid handwriting?

Video Tutorial: Scallop Square Lollipop Treats
I love my Scallop Square Die (see it online - 115950). It’s one of my most-used Big Shot dies (see what I mean?). Last week I posted a project using the Reason to Smile stamp set, and I wanted to share a Video Tutorial on how to make the sweet lollipop treat.
The treat uses several fabulous products, and if you like to print your directions to save at home, here’s a photo of the ‘guts’ of this little sweet treat:

Perfect Pennant Party Banner: just add glue
Looking for a quick and easy way to decorate for a special occasion? I created this banner (and one more that I sent my mom for her birthday) using the Perfect Pennants Big Shot Die (see it online).
Honestly, these banners could not be easier. Here’s what you need:
- 12 x 12″ Big Top Birthday Designer Series Paper — 12 sheets, enough for a LOT of banners (122348) **check out the Buy 3, Get 1 FREE sale in August!
- Perfect Pennants Big Shot Die (123126)
- Big Shot Die Cut Machine (113439)
- Real Red Satin Ribbon — 15 yards (117286)
- Brights Collection Buttons — 72 in a package (119747)
- Tombo Multiadhesive (110755)
Here are the easy steps…
- Just cut the 12×12″ paper into 5 x 7″ pieces to make as many banner pennants as you need. You can mix and match the circles and the pennants for a fun effect.
- Once you have your pieces cut, lay them out on a length of the Real Red Satin Ribbon. Laying them out before gluing gives you a chance to check your mix of colors. Don’t forget that you can flip over the pennants, since the paper is double-sided!
- Use the Tombo Multiadhesive to run a bead of glue along the top of each pennant, placing it onto the ribbon.
- After all your pennants and circles are glued, lay out a handful of the coordinating Brights Buttons, again, checking for color placement.
- Glue down the buttons with the Tombo Multiadhesive and you’re all done!
Hop to it! You know you have some fun events coming up that could benefit from some extra decorations (aka pennant banners). These are a quick way to dress up your party, or just for everyday fun. Here are some everyday occasions to celebrate during this time of year:
- First Day of School
- School Supply Shopping Day
- End of a Heat Wave
- I Love You
- “I Love Stamping” Day (this is pretty much any day you choose)

Build A Cupcake: Punch Art Gift Tags
A few weeks ago I shared this fun little Take-Out Box gift with the Create A Cupcake stamp set tag. The box itself is built from the Petal Cone Die for Big Shot (check out some other Petal Cone Die ideas).
The Create A Cupcake stamp set (see it online) and the matching Build A Cupcake Punch (see it online) are two of my fav items from the Mini Catalog. This tag and take-out box (via the Petal Cone Die–see it online) are projects from my recent Stampin’ Up! Workshops.
Here I wanted to share 2 Video Tutorials for this fun project.
Tutorial 1: Create A Cupcake Gift Tag — learn how to make the most of your ink pads with the Stampin’ Off technique, plus tips for Punch Art with the Build A Cupcake Punch.
Tutorial 2: Petal Cone Die Take-Out Box — another fabulous idea for this flexible die for Big Shot. Learn how to score and fold to create a sweet treat container.

Crazy for Cupcakes: especially to build your own
Can you picture this? I walked out to my mailbox one day, opened the door and pulled out a pile of junk mail… plus… my Occasions Mini Catalog! I ran back to the house (because of my excitement, not necessarily because I was out at the curb with no shoes on in 10 degree weather) and my first flip-through of the catalog stopped right at page 22…
No way, matching CUPCAKE stamps and punch?! Too sweet! (pun intended)
Okay, you’ve got me. Yes, this experience may have been recreated for my blog (since we got to play with this cute stamp set back at the Founder’s Circle Retreat last fall) but really, can’t you imagine the excitement?
The Create A Cupcake stamp set (see it online) and the matching Build A Cupcake Punch (see it online) are two of my fav items from the Mini Catalog. This tag and take-out box (via the Petal Cone Die–see it online) are projects from my recent Stampin’ Up! Workshops.
I’ve made these little boxes as Hostess Gifts. You could have one if you’d like to host a party, too! No cupcakes included though, except the cute one on the tag.
Keep an eye out tomorrow for my newest Video Tutorial! Or check out some of my other recent Petal Cone Die projects (including yesterday’s Easter Carrot).
