The Color Blue: Good for Snow AND Flowers
Mmmm… we’re in the middle of a few days of Winter Storm. They’re calling it “Snowmageddon” on the radio, so you know it must be exciting stuff! In any case, the blues on this card really appealed to me in the midst of our frosty weather.
The Build A Blossom stamp set (see it online) and coordinating Blossom Petals Punch (see it online) were used to stamp and punch these petals in Baja Breeze and Not Quite Navy.
The card itself isn’t fancy with lots of layers, but it does have some fun extra touches to add to the “vintage” look:
- Baja Breeze Glass Glitter (see it online) on the ‘friend’ tag
- Coordinating Baja Breeze Seam Binding Tape (see it online – I love having it in more colors!)
- Vintage Flower Adornments (see them online), I swear these look like chocolates, and yes, they come in Baja Breeze, too
The ‘friend’ greeting is from another great little stamp set — You’re A Gem (see it online) from the Occasions Mini Catalog. This was one of the stamp sets we received back at the Founder’s Circle Retreat, and I couldn’t wait to pull it out and use it!
Okay, back to the snow… I think I’m just going to stamp spring-y cards today. But those blue shades might just keep cropping up. Good thing the Occasions Mini Catalog has lots of great Baja Breeze accessories!
Oh, and if you missed it, you’ll want to check back from last week! My Stamps in the Mail Club for February features the Build A Blossom stamp set, and the projects are pretty fabulous! You can still sign up for this club, now into its 5th year.

Perfect Polka Dots with the Big Shot: A Stamping 101 Tutorial
I don’t know about you, but I love open space on my cards. Sometimes judicious use of blank card stock can nicely set off a simple embellishment.
But sometimes I like to ‘dress up’ my blank spaces just a bit. My favorite tool for that purpose right now is the Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder for the Big Shot.
Here’s a card that uses the folder as well as a couple of punches and some Designer Series Paper–shown from start to finish.
And if you really like this card & the Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder, don’t miss my Big Shot Die of the Month Club for March! Sign up by March 22nd: Click for details online.

Stamps: With All My Heart
Ink: Orchid Opulence
Paper: Barely Banana, Shades of Spring Designer Series Paper, Certainly Celery, Whisper White
Accessories: Clear Rhinestone Brads, Extra Large Fancy Flower Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder
Technique Tip: Painting Perfect Polka Dots
Looking to stretch your Big Shot supplies? Here’s a fun tip that works perfectly with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.
First cut out a flower using the Flower Folds Bigz XL Big Shot Die. Here I cut flowers in both Melon Mambo card stock and in a page from the Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Paper Pack (one of the Sale-A-Bration free gifts).
I put each flower in my Polka Dots folder and ran them through my Big Shot to add the texture to the flower die-cuts.
The I flipped my Chocolate Chip Classic Pad upside down and gently ran it across the top of the textured flower. The raised dots picked up the ink, and they really stand out visually.
The flowers stack perfectly on each other and I added a Pretty in Pink Corduroy Button with a cardstock thread (check out that recent stamping lesson) to match the card.

"Here Birdie, Birdie!"
Actually, I’m not sure this would really hold up for much of a bird… we had parakeets for years, and I’ve realized that birds are actually pretty messy animals. Cardstock… bird… not a good combo.
But fortunately, it’s not hard to have a cute Designer Series Paper bird with the new Extra Large Two-Step Bird Punch in the Occasions Mini Catalog! What a fun punch–all three elements are actually on the same punch. So you can punch them all out at once, or if you want different colors, put strips of cardstock in and punch just the elements you want.
On my birdhouse sides, I used the Sale-A-Bration Good Neighbor stamp set (one of the free choices with a $50 order during Sale-A-Bration). This is my 6-year old daughter’s new favorite stamp set. All the little roofs and trees and buildings are different pieces so you can mix and match anything you like!
The main part of the birdhouse uses the Mini Milk Carton Die, which is actually the Big Shot die featured in my February Big Shot Die of the Month Club. This sweet little birdhouse is one of the 4 projects that you’ll make when you sign up for my club.
You’ll get the Mini Milk Carton die as part of your Club fee ($42), plus you’ll receive pre-cut cardstock and embellishments ready-to-stamp along with printed directions for 4 projects. Just use whatever stamps and inks you have on hand at home, and your new Big Shot die!
If you’ve never tried one of my clubs, this is a great chance to try one out. You can even add to your Big Shot Die of the Month Club order and receive a free Sale-A-Bration stamp set of your choice! (Click here to learn more about my Big Shot Club)

Scallop Square Pivot Card: I think I mentioned that you need this die?
Last week I showed you a fold-out card with the Scallop Square Die as a base. Here’s another fun way to use the Scallop Square Die: as part of a Pivot Card.
This card uses the Kissing Technique, and as I mention in the video, there is NO INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT in this tutorial. If you found my blog by Googling “kissing tutorials”, I think you’re going to be disappointed.
The Medallion stamp (115223) here was the most popular stamp set ordered from the Stampin’ Up! catalog this fall. And it goes perfectly with the Supernova Glitter colors…but then I think everything goes with Glitter!
If you’d like to get your own Scallop Square Clear Die for the Big Shot, you can still sign up for my November Big Shot Die of the Month Club–I’m extending the sign-up deadline until November 13th–get details or sign up online!

Scallop Square Train Fold-out: Why You Need This Die
I’m always looking for cute ‘kid’ stamping ideas, and the Choo Choo stamp set absolutely fits that description! The Scallop Square card below is one I created for a little boy birthday, and what little boy doesn’t love trains? Honestly, what stamper, after playing with this cute set, won’t also love trains?

The colors are Not Quite Navy (one of my ‘sleeper’ favorites), Certainly Celery and Bashful Blue. I incorporated quite a few accessories into this card: the Large and Small Tag Punches, the My Way Punch for the arrows, and the die-cut number 3 comes from the Go Go Boots Big Shot Alphabet.
The card inside actually folds out in 3 panels. The fold-out is made from two pieces of 4-1/4 x 8-1/2″ cardstock, each folded in half. Just attach one piece to the back of the Scallop Square diecut piece, then turn the fold the opposite direction on the 2nd cardstock piece and attach it inside the first white cardstock piece, so the center panels overlap.
I love how the Right On Track Stampin’ Around Wheel extends the length of the card. If you needed a card for lots of signatures (like an office party, group baby shower gift, etc.) this would be a perfect solution–just add as many cardstock panels as you need!

B
ut the coolest part of this card is the Clear Scallop Square Big Shot die used for the background. Since the Scallop Square Die is clear, you can SEE what you’re cutting before you cut it! And with the front of this card having strips of cardstock, you have to place those strips before you die-cut your Scallop Square, so that they fit on the card front in the right spot. Since you can see through the die, you can line up your strips where you want on the die, and have the perfect fit every time
Of course, if you’re excited about the Clear Scallop Square die, you can order it online through my website any time. OR you can sign up for my Big Shot Die of the Month Club before November 10th, and get this die, plus ready-to-stamp card ideas and supplies!
