Retiring List Rewind: Nature Walk Inspiration

Daily Prayer: Nature Walk inspirational gift idea

One of my favorite nature stamp sets of all time – I used the Nature Walk stamp set (see it online) to create this framed gift for a friend of mine, using a poem written for her by her God-son.  For more pictures and the text of the prayer, check my original post.

Swallowtail Pinboard: Easy with Artisan Embellishments

Swallowtail Pinboard Idea: easy to make with the Artisan Embellishments Kit

Looking for a fun project idea that’s not a card? Something to create for a gift (or for your own space)? Try a fun embellished pin board! This board came from a big box store on clearance – they’re easy to find. Once you have your board, it’s all about embellishments.

Worried about what matches? What goes together? There’s a super-easy solution: the Artisan Embellishment Kit. It includes all the pieces, picked out to match and give your finished project an artisan quality. (see the Artisan Embellishment Kit Contents)

Swallowtail: not just for cards. Pinboard butterfly idea

For this project, I stamped a few butterflies (love the Swallowtail stamp, don’t you? see it online – 129216) and heat embossed the middle one using my Pool Party ink pad and the Iridescent Ice Embossing powder.

Butterfly Pin Board Project idea: Add paper to bottlecaps for thumb tacks

I connected the butterflies in a banner-like layout (banners being oh so popular). Then I added some Designer Series Paper from the More Amore Designer Series Paper (see the paper online – 129309) to the background, the Soda Pop Tops, everything.

Make a Ruffled Ribbon embellishment

Those Soda Pop Tops make great thumbtacks.  (see them online – 129388)  Just use a strong glue like the Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to attach a tack to the back and fill the bottlecap with a punched circle of designer paper!

Or you can check out my Soda Pop Top Jewelry Tutorial for details on adding Crystal Effects to your bottlecaps to finish them off with a nice shine.

Have fun making your own Pin Board Project! This one went home with my friend Jane after our demonstrator group holiday party.  Gotta love a gift exchange with stampers!  This would make a great project for a bridal shower gift (can’t you see the bride-to-be pinning ideas to her board?) or a new baby gift (so many baby things to collect in a collage…hospital bracelets, a teeny sock, snapshots…).

This week I seem to be loving the Swallowtail stamp — so I’m happy to share a project here that uses it for something other than a card.

Happy Stamping!

Valentine BINGO Centerpieces: table decor ideas

Looking for wedding table decor?  Baby Shower centerpieces?  These are Valentine centerpieces headed to my local library for table decor, but it’s a fun idea that can be applied to any occasion: Rosettes!

To make these easy Valentine centerpieces, I used the Designer Rosette Die from Stampin’ Up! (see it online) and the More Amore Designer Series Paper (see the paper online – 129309).  If you’ve never made them before, be sure to check my Designer Rosette Die Tutorial.

For this size of picks, I cut one full strip of designer paper with the rosette die, then cut it into 3 pieces before folding and gluing (TIP: hot glue for speedy rosettes!).

Here are some of the fun supplies I used:

Here’s another idea for the Designer Rosette Die same shapes (cut into 3 strips per rosette die-cut) but different paper.

Have fun with these!

Happy Stamping, and Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Make Your Own Family Valentine Banner

What says “love” more than family? I created a fun and simple banner using My Digital Studio 2 (learn more about it) and the Valentine Love Ensemble Download (see it now) from Stampin’ Up!.

The basic design work is already done for you with this sweet template.  It’s simple to add a few extra panels, photos of your family or friends, embellish with digital embellishments, then print at home!  Cut out, add a ribbon, and you’re set for a quick and fun memory project that will brighten your home!

Want to learn the details of the ‘how to’ on this project?  Good news!  I have an MDS with Meg Tutorial for you!

There are 3 lessons for this banner — you may find that you only need a few minutes of the first one if you’re an MDS user already.  If you’re new to MDS, you’ll probably like the detail in all the lessons.

(getting this feed via email? you’ll need to click to visit my blog to get the videos)

Well, Cross My Heart and Send Me A Valentine!

Need a quick classroom craft for next week?  A valentine idea for your kids to make at home? Here’s a sweet (ha!) one that doesn’t take much time.  It uses the Cross My Heart stamp set (see it online) that I shared yesterday for the birthday card.

Just trim out a doily heart from the More Amore Designer Series Paper (see the paper online – 129309) and punch another heart from the paper to layer.  Attach your finished pieces to a flat lollipop and tie a ribbon!

Stamping Tips & Tricks to remember:

  • Use your Stampin’ Write Markers (the broad tip) to color directly on a stamp in several different colors for a multi-color image like on the crossword puzzle. (see the Stampin’ Write Markers online)
  • With Stampin’ Write Markers, color the lighter colors first and don’t worry about detail.  Use a darker marker next and color over anything you want to be darker.  The dark color will cover up the lighter ink just fine.
  • For a tiny stamped image that you want to punch out (like the elephant), remember to stamp first, then punch.  It’s easy to use the Stampin’ Up! punches upside down so you can see through the window and center your image. (see punch selection online)

Stampin’ Up! Leadership: Wrap-Up

What a whirlwind of a day… wait, do all my Stampin’ Up! event posts start with that line?? Well the great part is that it’s always a wonderful whirlwind of creativity, inspiration and yes, free stamps!  This year’s Leadership Conference has been no different.

Here are a few of the highlights from this year’s Leadership:

This is the kick-off for Stampin’ Up!’s 25th year – and I’m excited to be a part of it!  The morning started off with a fabulous message from Shelli Gardner about the Statement of the Heart, and how much we all together have allowed Stampin’ Up! to make a difference in the past 25 years.

Then the stamping sessions got underway with a variety of fabulous ideas… you’ll just have to wait for many of them, since I’ll be sharing on my blog over the next couple of weeks! But here’s a teaser taste of some of the beautiful things we saw…. first with the Artisan Embellishments Kit (see it online – 129328):

And then with the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit (see it online – 131395):

Then there was the fabulous announcement of the Dude, You’re Welcome Kit (see it online – 132807), which you can order starting today!  It’s stamps, an ink pad and manly papers for guys who forget their wives’ birthdays, or who just want brownie points for stamping their own cards!

Then it was the announcement about My Paper Pumpkin (which you can sign up for starting today!!).  Here’s more on my blog about that… and at Leadership, we each got to take a 1st month kit and the trial kit home for free!!  Think we were excited? Much?

After that was lunch, which is always a relaxing affair at Leadership — think white tablecloths, several courses, and a chance to visit with friends to talk about our impressions of Leadership.

Then that evening we gathered (all 1500 of us!) for a stamping under the stars evening, pajamas required!

For even more fabulous ideas, like this one using the Soda Pop Tops bottlecaps (see them online – 129388) from the Spring Catalog:

Really, how fun is that?? Bottlecap jewelry is so trendy, and with a 1″ circle punch, Crystal Effects and the Soda Pop Tops (smash with your Big Shot), you’re all set!

After stamping, it was time for cookies and milk.  Because really, what pajama party is complete without them??

We had a great time gathering with old friends from around the US and Canada, and meeting new friends, too. It’s always a good time when demonstrators gather.

So we’re looking forward to gathering again soon — in St. Louis for the Stampin’ Up! Regional!

If you’d like to join me and my LovenStampfuls team, I’d love to have you there! Be sure to let me know you’re thinking about it.  And remember that if you’re loving all these updates about events, YOU can come, too!  There is a terrific bonus coming up soon for the New Demonstrator Starter KitDrop me a note and I can get you details!!

Want to see more Leadership updates?  Here they are…on my blog!

The Urbana Free Library: Journals and a Sneak Peek

Earlier in December I was invited to teach a journal-making class for elementary school students at The Urbana Free Library in Urbana, Illinois.  Of course since my pre-order of goodies for the Spring Catalog had just arrived, I had to pull out some new goodies to use on my notebook.

Some of my favorite Sneak Peek items — the Tea Lace Paper Doilies, the Artisan Embellishments Kit (with buttons, lace, ribbon, printed pieces, etc.) and the Hearts A Flutter stamp set.  Remember, you can start ordering these items on January 3rd!

To turn this plain composition notebook into a journal, here’s what I did:

  1. Brush Mod Podge on the back of lightweight kraft paper (I used the packing paper from Stampin’ Up! orders — it’s free!)
  2. Adhere paper to journal and fold or trim the edges
  3. Begin the collage project – acrylic paint with foam brushes for background smudges or to cover chipboard
  4. Apply acrylic paint to stamps with a light touch using a foam brush, being sure to wash stamps right away (the Stampin’ Scrubsee it online – works great here)
  5. Add buttons and dimensional elements securely with Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive - aka Green Lid Glue – (see it online)

Here are a few more of the photos from this fun library event:

Happy Halloween! BOO to you!

In our neighborhood we have a “BOO!” tradition of leaving fun treats on porches and then passing on treats to other neighbors.

Once you’ve been “boo’d”,  you place a sign in your window so other neighbors know you’ve been visited already for the year.

It’s a fun way to share treats and let the kids go around ringing doorbells and then running away  ;)

Here are the treat bags (featuring the Googly Ghouls stamp set – see it online) that we made up to leave on a couple of porches this year:

If you’re looking for a poem to include with your treats, here’s a link to one I found online.

Happy Halloween!!

Stamping for a Shrimp Boil: “bring a side dish to share”

How many event invitations come with the message: “bring a dish to pass” or something along those lines?  Seems like lots.  And they’re great, because everyone brings their favorite recipe, all ready to eat!

This past weekend my family and I attended a Shrimp Boil (yum!) and I took along a fruit salsa recipe that I love.  After I made it and looked at it in the bowl though, I couldn’t tell if anyone would know what exactly it was.

So in the 4 minutes my family was putting on shoes to go out the door, I made a quick sign!

The Perfectly Preserved stamp set (see it online) was perfect for my dish!  And the Orchard Harvest Designer Series Paper (see it online) complemented the colors beautifully (plus I love that paper!).

Interested in the recipe?  The Mango Strawberry Salsa is sweet with a nice tang – yum!  I usually make it with whatever I have on hand.  Here’s the recipe for the one I made up this weekend.

Mango Strawberry Salsa

  • 1 cup frozen corn (frozen – it thaws on its own)
  • 1 cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 medium tomato (chopped, then drain)
  • 1/2 cup chopped dried mango
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 dashes apple cider vinegar

Happy Stamping!

Summer Scrap Camp: Locker Magnet Creations

Each summer I hold a Summer Scrap Camp for kids, and we meet 5 times during the time between the end of school and back-to-school chaos.  This summer we had 2 great groups – one for kids going into 2nd and 3rd grade, and another group for kids going into 4th through 9th grade.

Each time we meet, we work on 4-5 scrapbook pages, plus another project or two.  This past week we created locker magnets for the kids to take back to school with them.  I put out stamps, card stock and a bunch of fun scraps left from past projects, and the kids went to work!

Here are their creations:

Several kids really loved the Owl Occasions stamp set (see it online) from the Holiday Collection Catalog.  Don’t forget that you can get Owl Occasions yourself as part of my Stamps in the Mail Club!

Looking for more projects to do with kids before school begins again?  Here are a variety of kid-tested stamping projects on my blog.

Happy Stamping!
