Mosaic Madness: Ideas with Chalk Talk

Have you been poring over the new catalog?? Working on your Wish List? I’m loving the new Chalk Talk stamp set (see it online – 130249).  I can’t wait for the matching Framelits to arrive, so that I can play with them, too.  In the meantime, I loved the way the ornate frame worked as a background image, directly on my card layer.

It’s a great fit with the Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder (see it online -129984).

And yum!!  New In Colors!! The background of this card is Strawberry Slush…it’s so much fun to use on projects.

Happy Stamping!

Hip Hop Recital: 24-7 for one week

Ah, the excitement of dance recital week… if you’ve never experienced it first hand, let me tell you… it’s something to remember!  Both of my kids were in hip hop classes this year, and the recital time is so much fun. I just had to share a picture of where we are all week — so you’d understand why I’m not posting as much as usual this week!!

Hip Hop recital picture - with My Digital Studio

But of course I did take 5 minutes with My Digital Studio to create a quick postcard for you!  Here’s what I used:

Background
Designer Series Paper – Love Impressions – pattern 1

Embellishments
Downtown Grunge – frame 1
Keep This Memory – love arrow (re-colored)

Don’t worry — I’ll be back soon.  And in the meantime, be sure to browse my blog for recent project ideas!

Graduation Card Ideas: Word Play stamp set

Graduation card idea: Go confidently in the direction of your dreams (Word Play set)

It’s that season!  Congrats to all the graduates this spring – it’s an exciting time with so many possibilities ahead.  If you need a perfect stamp for highlighting the adventure, I love this one from the soon-to-retire Word Play stamp set (see it online – 120651).

The stamp says “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.”  Really, what says it better than that?  If it’s too late to use for this year’s graduation cards, you’ll still want to have it on hand to use next year.  Or for scrapbook pages… it’s perfect!

Bordering On Romance: only a few days left

Bordering on Romance: fun fold card edge idea

Only a few days left for stamp sets and accessories from the retiring Stampin’ Up! catalog – here’s another set that I’ve loved: Bordering on Romance (see it online – 125482).

This set makes for a really pretty quick card — it’s perfect for the Faux Watercoloring Technique:

Instead of using a watercolor brush (like Blender Pens or Aqua Painters), just use your Stampin’ Write Marker to trace around the inside edge of the stamped image.  It’s a quick and easy technique for making a big impression!

Bordering On Romance - how to highlight a fun card front borderI love the border images on this stamp set, too.  On this card I punched the front edge of the card with the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online – 119882) and placed a stamped strip of Whisper White card stock on the inside of the card to highlight the pretty border.

Make Someone Happy… Make A Monster!

make-a-monster-class-gift-card-idea

Every year I have a favorite stamp set that’s going to retire…and this one is it – Make A Monster.  I don’t care how old you are — 2 to 99, or whether you’re a guy or a gal — but this stamp set makes for FUN crafting and FUN receiving!  (see Make A  Monster online – 120606)

This little zig zag card is 3″ high and 10″ long, and I scored it every 2″ to make the zigs and zags.

Boutique Boxes Designer Printed Kit (check my Product Tip for a bonus idea!)

It folds perfectly into the Boutique Boxes that are in the Spring catalog (only until June 3! See them now).  We made these cards at Stamp Club with Meg this month, and nearly everyone bought a package of these boxes.  They’re a great bargain!

Did you notice how my box band is white?  And there’s no white band in the Boutique Boxes Designer Printed Kit?

ALERT!!  PRODUCT TIP!!  The backs of the die cuts are all white.  So if you want a different color, flip the printed piece to the back side and leave it white or sponge or brayer it whatever color you want.

Love the message from this card?  Really, who couldn’t feel better by getting a box of monsters as a pick-me-up?  :)   The greeting is from the retiring Word Play stamp set (see it online – 120651).

Looking for more ideas with Make A Monster?  I can help!  Check my past blog posts for samples.

Card Ideas for Guys – Magic with Circle Circus

Masculine Card Ideas - just change your color scheme with Circle Circus

One of the questions I hear all the time is “Do you have any ideas for cards for men?”  Good question!  And the answer is yes!  Lots of times we have the perfect stamp sets for guy cards already in our stamp collection – we just don’t see them in “guy colors”.  So that’s the magic key — start thinking in GUY COLORS!

Here’s another sample of Circle Circus (see the set online – 127784) from my blog a few years ago — I used it to make a scrapbook page to celebrate our Advisory Board picture from the Stampin’ Up! Convention back in 2009.  (Where has the time gone??)

For the scrapbook page, I used Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry (back soon as a “new” color!) and accented with Basic Black.  The whole page comes across as fairly “girlie”.

But with the guy card above, my color combination came from the Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper (see it online – 126898):

  • Cajun Craze
  • Midnight Muse
  • Pool Party
  • Soft Suede
  • Summer Starfruit

And the whole feel of the stamp set magically becomes much more masculine.

I gathered with a group of women from my church yesterday to make a big set of these cards to use for Card Ministry.  Lots of fun and fellowship, and watch for more posts of the cards we created in the coming weeks!

So two thoughts to leave with you today -

Want to come to Convention? You can!! We have a HUGE family of LovenStampfuls demonstrators attending, and I’d love to have you join us.  You can learn more about becoming a demonstrator on my website (plus a bonus $30 to spend on your Starter Kit right now!).

Take a second look at your stamp collection. I bet there are some sets in there that would make terrific guy cards if you change your color selections!

One Week Boutique – 10 Year Celebration

OWB kids consignment sale - scrapbook celebration of 10 years

You’ve come a long way, baby! Hard to believe 10 years has gone by that I’ve been scrapbooking for Donna Pepper and her One Week Boutique kid’s consignment sale.  From a tiny little space and about 5 small racks of clothing to what now could probably span a football field (and DOES fill an entire big-box storefront)…definitely has been 10 years to celebrate!

I found this old photo from an early sale (maybe the first?):

owb-early-sale-photo

Like I said, definitely a lot of change, as here is what a recent sale looked like at the old Best Buy building in Champaign:

owb-scrapbook-waiting-to-shop

It has been fun to see the sale grow, and to have the chance to help capture it in a scrapbook.  The original book is pretty much bursting at the seams.  Perhaps it’s time to put the 2nd 10 years into a new volume? One Week Boutique: Volume 2?

What things in your life would you like to capture in a scrapbook?  What stories would you like to tell or watch blossom over the years?

owb-donna-pepper-scrapbook

I’d be happy to help you get started, either digitally (I offer free digital scrapping classes every month) or on paper with traditional supplies (I’ll have a scapbook-in-a-day class coming up this spring).

Be sure to sign up for my email newsletter below or drop me an email now to let me know if you are interested:

And if you want to shop, get ready!  You can find the One Week Boutique on their Facebook page, and get all the details on shopping times.  If you have kids, know kids or like kids, this is THE PLACE to shop for them and pick up some fantastic items at fantastic prices!

Oh Whale: How To Fold A Card (and keep the white inside!)

Oh Whale: Thanks a Ton card idea with tip for keeping the inside of the card white

Yes, I realize that if you are reading my blog, you probably already know how to fold a card.  But do you ever wish that the inside of your dark layered card was lighter?  Do you always search your stamp table for a white gel pen to write? Here’s a simple trick that will make it oh-so-easy to write inside your cards!

Here’s the trick:

Oh Whale Card Idea for layouts - keep the inside whiteInstead of making your card a dark colored card stock, make your CARD Whisper White, and make only the back LAYER the darker color.  Here are the dimensions I used:

  • Pacific Point background layer: 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″
  • Whisper White card: 4″ x 8″

See how easy it is?  You get a layered effect on the inside of your card, you can write easily with a pen (and read it!) and you can decorate or stamp inside til your heart’s content.

So simple.  Try it!

For these cards I used the stamps from the Oh Whale  stamp set (129132 – see it online) to make two slightly different versions of this card.  Each one is punny (pun + funny) but they each showcase a different one of the Cute Clips Elements shaped paperclips (see them online – 129939).  Here’s another card idea for the Cute Clips, and here’s another card idea for Oh Whale.

Happy Stamping!

Swallowtail Pinboard: Easy with Artisan Embellishments

Swallowtail Pinboard Idea: easy to make with the Artisan Embellishments Kit

Looking for a fun project idea that’s not a card? Something to create for a gift (or for your own space)? Try a fun embellished pin board! This board came from a big box store on clearance – they’re easy to find. Once you have your board, it’s all about embellishments.

Worried about what matches? What goes together? There’s a super-easy solution: the Artisan Embellishment Kit. It includes all the pieces, picked out to match and give your finished project an artisan quality. (see the Artisan Embellishment Kit Contents)

Swallowtail: not just for cards. Pinboard butterfly idea

For this project, I stamped a few butterflies (love the Swallowtail stamp, don’t you? see it online – 129216) and heat embossed the middle one using my Pool Party ink pad and the Iridescent Ice Embossing powder.

Butterfly Pin Board Project idea: Add paper to bottlecaps for thumb tacks

I connected the butterflies in a banner-like layout (banners being oh so popular). Then I added some Designer Series Paper from the More Amore Designer Series Paper (see the paper online – 129309) to the background, the Soda Pop Tops, everything.

Make a Ruffled Ribbon embellishment

Those Soda Pop Tops make great thumbtacks.  (see them online – 129388)  Just use a strong glue like the Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to attach a tack to the back and fill the bottlecap with a punched circle of designer paper!

Or you can check out my Soda Pop Top Jewelry Tutorial for details on adding Crystal Effects to your bottlecaps to finish them off with a nice shine.

Have fun making your own Pin Board Project! This one went home with my friend Jane after our demonstrator group holiday party.  Gotta love a gift exchange with stampers!  This would make a great project for a bridal shower gift (can’t you see the bride-to-be pinning ideas to her board?) or a new baby gift (so many baby things to collect in a collage…hospital bracelets, a teeny sock, snapshots…).

This week I seem to be loving the Swallowtail stamp — so I’m happy to share a project here that uses it for something other than a card.

Happy Stamping!
