All Dressed Up – a fashionably belated birthday

I think the inside of this card is the best.  One of the greetings included with the All Dressed Up stamp set (see it online – 129174) reads, “happy birthday! fashionably late…but worth the wait.”  Gotta love a fun belated birthday card, right?  It’s the birthday that keeps on giving!

Love the dress form and the die-cut dress shape?  This sweet card also uses the Dress Up Framelits Dies (see them online – 130101) to cut the dress from the More Amore Designer Series Paper (see the paper online – 129309), which is definitely NOT just for Valentine’s Day!

Better bonus?  You can get the stamp set and the framelits together at a 15% discount!  (check that online – 131095)

And if you’ve got a wedding coming up this spring or summer, can’t you just see how perfect this set is for bridal shower treats? Favors?  Thank you notes?

Whooo Loves You? Cello Bag Topper Valentine Owls

Looking for a cute Valentine treat bag topper for a cellophane bag?  Here’s a quick one that I posted last year… it was so popular, I figured I’d share it again!

These cute owls are based on the Medium Cello Bag size (see them online), and a handful of M&M’s fits perfectly.

Punches & Dies:

  • Top Note Die (for Big Shot) -113463
  • Scallop Circle #2 Die (for Big Shot) – 113469
  • Scallop Circle Punch  – 119854
  • 1 1/4″ Circle Punch -119861
  • 1″ Circle Punch – 119868
  • 1/2″ Circle Punch -119869
  • For the feet, the Blossom Punch is a good fit — 125603

Like the little “owl be yours” greeting?  It’s punched with the 1-1/4″ Circle Punch.  The image is part of the Owl Be Yours & You Bee Mine Digital Download (see it online).  I just made a full page of them and printed the circles at home so I could punch them out.

Did you see that you can now try out My Digital Studio for free for 30 days?  Be sure to check out the details!

Best part of this treat?  They’re fairly simple to assemble, whether you’re making 5 or 50!

The Urbana Free Library: Journals and a Sneak Peek

Earlier in December I was invited to teach a journal-making class for elementary school students at The Urbana Free Library in Urbana, Illinois.  Of course since my pre-order of goodies for the Spring Catalog had just arrived, I had to pull out some new goodies to use on my notebook.

Some of my favorite Sneak Peek items — the Tea Lace Paper Doilies, the Artisan Embellishments Kit (with buttons, lace, ribbon, printed pieces, etc.) and the Hearts A Flutter stamp set.  Remember, you can start ordering these items on January 3rd!

To turn this plain composition notebook into a journal, here’s what I did:

  1. Brush Mod Podge on the back of lightweight kraft paper (I used the packing paper from Stampin’ Up! orders — it’s free!)
  2. Adhere paper to journal and fold or trim the edges
  3. Begin the collage project – acrylic paint with foam brushes for background smudges or to cover chipboard
  4. Apply acrylic paint to stamps with a light touch using a foam brush, being sure to wash stamps right away (the Stampin’ Scrubsee it online – works great here)
  5. Add buttons and dimensional elements securely with Tombow Multi-Purpose Adhesive - aka Green Lid Glue – (see it online)

Here are a few more of the photos from this fun library event:

New Stampin’ Technique: Misted Alcohol Resist

Last month at my Stamp Club we made a fun card with a free form and flow-y technique.  Is that a word?  I think you’ll see what I mean though!  The technique is called Misted Alcohol Resist (click below for a bigger picture).  And you can never go wrong with the Lovely As A Tree stamp set (see it online – 127793)

Meg’s tutorial directions for Misted Alcohol Resist:

  1. Heat emboss image on Glossy White card stock (see it online – 102599).  I used Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder (see it online -101930)
  2. Spritz card stock with Stampin’ Mist, water or alchol.  Drip 5-6 drops of reinker and tilt card stock to distribute.
  3. Blot any drips that gather at the edges of the card stock to prevent saturating edges.

See how the ink runs but the image resists?  I don’t know about you, but we’re dreaming of white Christmas here at our house!

Looking for a few Christmas card ideas?  Here are a bunch on my blog from past posts, but I think this deer is one of my favs.  The Christmas Deer (see the set online) is new in this year’s Stampin’ Up! catalog.

Warm & Cozy: Make A Mitten Christmas Cards

I love the warm fuzzies that come from slipping on a new pair of hand-knit mittens for the first time.  All snuggly warm… well if you’re not knitting this season (or if you are!) then you can STAMP your mittens with the Make A Mitten stamp set (see it online).

Here’s a simple & fun idea using the mittens on a card embossed with the Northern Flurries Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (see it online).

More good news!!  The folder is actually on sale thru November 28th for 25% off!

The greeting on this card fits perfectly – it’s from the More Merry Messages stamp set (see it online).

Merry & Type: Texture all the way

For my Christmas Card Stamp A Stack last evening, I wanted to pull out the Merry & Type stamp set (see it online).  I love the vintage feel of the ornaments — and what says 1930′s more than houndstooth? The Houndstooth Textured Impressions Folder came in handy as a design element (see it online).

Did you see the layered border effect on the left side of the card?  The vertical elements on this card are basically a series of borders, including the Champagne Glimmer Paper (see it online – a little goes a long way!) and the Scallop Edge Border Punch (see it online).

Pretty in Pink: Ornament Keepsakes Christmas Idea

Ever wanted to break out of the Christmas box?  Try something a bit different for a card?  Here’s a fun alternate color scheme for a card — pink & white.  With the Ornament Keepsakes stamp set, there’s no doubt the card is for Christmas.  But the glittery fun colors give this set a whole different look.

The Ornament Keepsakes and coordinating Holiday Ornaments Framelits are available as a bundle – and you get both the stamps and the framelits for 15% off when you buy them together! (see the special online)  Plus don’t forget about the special for October.  If you’re getting the stamps and framelits, it makes even more sense to add the paper and get the Festive Piercing Pack for free! (only in October – see details)

The design of the Peace on Earth stamp from Greetings of the Season (see it online) is a perfect complement for this color set.

Looking for other Christmas card ideas?  Find some inspiration on my blog!

Beautiful Season: A Chickadee Christmas

I’m in love with this little birdie!  The Beautiful Season stamp set is a gorgeous line drawing set (see the full set online).  I know the artwork can be a bit intimidating, especially at the thought of coloring in that bird and the branch.  But the good news is that you don’t have to color if you don’t want to!

Here’s a sample of the set with the bird stamped in a single color — nothing but traditional Christmas colors here.

A special hint on this stamp set: there’s no extra holly branch included, but the branch with the chickadee is plenty big enough to add some extra decoration.  On the inside of the card, I stamped the bottom of the holly branch along the edges of the Top Note shape.  Looks like a totally different stamp – but (sshhhh!) it’s the same one as on the front!

Like the Designer Series Paper on this card?  Good news — it’s the paper that’s in the bundle on special in October  (learn more).

This is one of the cards we’ll be making tomorrow at my Christmas Card Stamp A Stack.  There are still 2 seats open in the morning and the evening session — let me know ASAP if you’d like to join us!

Happy Stamping!
