2 Uses for 1 Happy Birthday Project: Designer Rosettes

2 in 1 Birthday Treat: Age Awareness Happy Birthday Tag with the Designer Rosette Die (A Video Tutorial) by LovenStamps

Actually, I bet we can come up with a whole host of ways to use this fun project idea. Why limit to just 2? Leave me a comment if you come up with something fun. Probably I should change the blog post title…

But mainly, it’s a birthday tag for a fabulous package or a super-sweet home decor piece that would look fabulous on a door, hanging on a cabinet knob, popped onto a skewer for a birthday bouquet… how many uses are we up to now?

If there were a 12 step group for a certain stamping project, then Designer Rosette Die Anonymous, I need to join. In the meantime, here are a couple of my recent favs with this die:

“What’s the Designer Rosette Die and how does it work,” you ask? Why, I’m so glad you asked! Check out the Designer Rosette Bigz XL Die (125594) in my online store, get it ordered, then head back here for the Video Tutorial.

Here’s a pin-able graphic that I shared last week. Thought it might be handy again.

3 Easy Steps: Flip Flop Cards with your Big Shot

Deco Label Framelits: Flip Flop Card Video Tutorial by LovenStamps

You’re going to FLIP for this fun card idea! And I promise that you’re going to LOVE the special coming in August if you don’t already own your Big Shot. Oh wait — if you own a Big Shot, you’re STILL going to love it.

So be sure to sign up for my email newsletter (box on my right blog column!) so you don’t miss any, ahem, important announcements.

Easy Deco Label Framelit Flip Cards: A Simple Video Tutorial by LovenStamps

Really, the steps are so simple that you’re going to kick yourself for not trying this sooner. Be gentle – you’re going to want to sit right down and get started on your own flip flop cards!

Here’s what you’ll need for making your own Flip Flop Cards (and while I’m always an “order now” kind of gal, maybe hang on until August 1 in this case…):

  • Big Shot (113439) – Yes! You need this! Or I guess you can use your paper trimmer in a needless complicated measuring and scoring odyssey. Just kidding. It’s not that bad. You can do the same without the Big Shot, but my goodness, it’s so easy WITH a Big Shot that you’ll love me forever for suggesting you get one. Or pull just pull yours out.
  • Magnetic Platform (130658) – Again, you can live without it, but are you really living? It’s kinda like sliced bread.
  • Deco Labels Collection Framelits (130102) – They slice, they dice, they make great Flip Flop cards! And they match a ton of fun stamp sets, but they’re also a great foundation piece, like on this Age Awareness stamp set (135381) card here.

Or there’s an even simpler way to make this card… as one of your July projects in my Stamps in the Mail Club! Then all you have to do is stamp, assemble and impress your friends. You don’t even have to cut it yourself :)

Check out the video tutorial – I’ll take you through “how to make a Flip Flop Card” step-by-step! I’m all about making things SIMPLE, so don’t be expecting any complicated steps. Really.

It’s a Polka Party! Happy Age Awareness Day

Polka Time! Happy Age Awareness Day card by LovenStamps for Stamps in the Mail Club with Meg

Polka DOTS, that is.

But really, if you want to get up and dance, then I say go for it! For some reason I learned to polka when I was in college and I have to say that it’s an awfully fun dance. I have to yet to convince my kids to give it a try, but their non-polka days are numbered…

Anyway, you’re here for stamping tips, right? This card uses the new Age Awareness stamp set (135381) and the polka dots come from the Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder (133739). Both are NEW in the catalog that debuted last month (browse online).

It’s a pretty simple card – and with a quick color change (or even leave them ‘as is’) this would be a great card for a guy.

But if you’d like to see it step-by-step, through the magic of YouTube, here’s your chance! If you’re viewing via email subscription, click here to see the post & video directly on my blog or here directly on YouTube

4 Steps To Wedded Bliss (Cards)

Designer Rosette Die: 4 Steps to a fabulous wedding card design (from LovenStamps)

We went to a wedding earlier this summer that was absolutely gorgeous – from the hand-stamped invitations to the hand-crafted chocolate favors.  So of course I had to come up with a unique card for the bride & groom.  Right??

This week I posted another wedding card design with the  Everything Eleanor stamp set (124164). Today’s card uses another all-occasion stamp set: Big News (134018).

This card incorporates some of the bride’s design elements – like the peacock feather.  Did you know they’re super-trendy for weddings right now?  Plus they give you a gorgeous color palette for designing!

I also used another of my fav elements for right now – the Designer Rosette Die (125594) for the Big Shot.  As you can see, I layered two of the Starburst Framelits Dies (132967) pieces over the top and adhered them to make a hinge opening for the card.

Here’s a speedy tutorial graphic (feel free to pin it!) on using the Designer Rosette Die.

How to use the Designer Rosette Die from Stampin' Up! (by LovenStamps)

I cut two 8 1/2″ strips of Blackberry Bliss card stock with the die, then split each in half the long way (end up with 4 strips).  I used the scallop edge pieces to make the rosette for the wedding card, and the zig-zag edge pieces in the tutorial graphic.

And the envelope! It’s a dimensional envelope created with the Envelope Punch Board  (love it!).  If you’ve never used the Envelope Punch Board to make a deep envelope, then you’ll want to watch my Video Tutorial.  The sizes are a bit different, but you’ll get the idea.

Cutting directions for the envelope:

For the wedding card (or to fit any special occasion card using an Designer Rosette), I started with a piece of 10″ x 10″ Designer Series Paper and used the 4-3/4″ score line to begin.  Then I offset the next round of score lines by 1/2″.  Yup, I know that sounds like Greek, but if you watch the video tutorial, I promise it will make more sense!

We had a great time at the wedding – and I hope the bride & groom enjoyed their card!  Tis the season, so time to get stamping and make some more wedding and anniversary cards!

Well, 3 out of 4 smiles ain’t bad.  It’s tough when you have to wear those fancy shoes…

48% of Wedding Cards Are Sold in Summer Months

Everthing Eleanor: Annivesary Card idea for card ministry by LovenStamps

Wedding trivia: 48% of wedding cards are sold during the summer.  I’m sure it’s true… I read it on the internet.  So that means you’ll need pretty much half of all your yearly anniversary cards this summer.  Were you looking for some wedding or anniversary card ideas?  Here’s  one using Blooming with Kindness on my blog.

Anniversary cards are always a trick.  There’s a fine balance between too girly (there’s generally a guy receiving this card, too!) and not “pretty” enough.

Do you struggle with this artistic tug-of-war, too?  Leave me a comment if you’ve found yourself putting the Pretty in Pink ink back on the shelf when it’s time to make an anniversary card.

Since I’ve been designing cards for our card ministry at church, I’ve spent more time pondering the question.  And I’ve decided that I really like the Everything Eleanor stamp set (124164).

This card uses the Back to Black Designer Series Paper (133700) which is on the “Buy 3, Get 1 FREE” special during July.

And check the Clearance Rack for new items listed today!  Shop early for best selection!!

4th of July – Home Decor for Celebrating

Designer Rosette for the 4th of July by LovenStamps (with help from Paper Pumpkin)

Be the Star - 4th of July DIY home decor project by LovenStamps (with My Paper Pumpkin pinwheels)Happy 4th of July!!  Last week at Summer Scrap Camp (see more crafting/stamping with kids ideas) we created these fun home decor wall hangings to help celebrate the holiday this week.  The kids (entering 5th – 10th grade) had a BLAST with this project and loved the chance to use lots of hot glue.

The Designer Rosette Die (125594) is one of my fav standbys for DIY medallions and rosettes of all sizes.  The pieces from this die can make rosettes larger than a dinner plate, or smaller ones like the 7″ version we made here  (see more Designer Rosette Die ideas).

There are so many fun tools used on this project – here’s a run-down of what we had available:

Designer Rosette Die (125594) – I cut out two lengths from 8.5 x 11″ paper and trimmed them in half the long way.  Then I attached two half strips end-to-end and made the rosette.

Starburst Framelits Dies (132967) – I cut two of these, one to hot glue to the back of the rosette and one to hot glue to the front to hold everything together.

My Paper Pumpkin (from the June kit) – the pinwheels and the straw came from the kit that arrived in my mailbox last week!  Paper Pumpkin is a monthly craft subscription (get it here).  We never know ahead of time what each month’s surprise project will be — so much fun!

How to use Little Letters Thinlits Dies for Big Shot, project by LovenStampsLittle Letters Thinlits Dies (133730) – USA!!  These little letters for the Big Shot are best used with the Magnetic Platform (130658) so they will stay where you place them.  Just run your flag through the Big Shot and cut out the letters in your message!

Be the Star stamp set (135734) – Aren’t these sweet?  And they match the Stars Thinlits Dies (133723) perfectly!

Really, a fun project that could be adapted to pretty much any occasion — think birthdays, anniversaries, the last day of school…
