Stampin Techniques 201: Faux Watercolor

For All Things: Faux Watercolor techinque & video tutorial, by LovenStamps for Stamps in the Mail Club with Meg

Sometimes it’s fun to bend the rules a bit and try something a little bit different. Smeary images? Oh yes! Let’s try it and call it a technique… how about Faux Watercolor? Trust me. You’re going to like it! (And we’re not talking about eating your vegetables here, as in, “You’re going to LIKE it!”)

I’m using the For All Things stamp set (135155) from the Holiday Catalog (browse online). This stamp set is also the one that you’ll get with my September Stamps in the Mail Club kit. Never fear, it’s not too late to get your own kit and make these projects at home. Just drop me a note if you’d like one, or check the details on my website: Stamps in the Mail Club.

The Faux Watercolor Technique is simple:

  1. Stamp on Watercolor Paper
  2. Spray with water
  3. Allow to dry

That’s about it! There are definitely a few tips though – and you can see ‘em in action in my video tutorial below!

If you’re viewing via email subscription, click here to see the post & video directly on my blog or here directly on YouTube

This is one of the 4 projects from my September Stamps in the Mail Club Kit. So if you’d like to make this card at home (plus 3 other fun projects), then be sure to fill out the web form here. I’ll send you a PayPal invoice and your stamps, ink and projects kit will be on their way to your doorstep!

I’d love to stamp with you by mail!

Happy Stamping!

Card Layout #177: Faux Polaroid Effect

Stampin' Up! set - For All Things: Faux Polaroid card layout - Sketch 177 from LovenStamps

Layout #177?  What happened to 176?  175?  Okay, you caught me, I just picked a number.  I have over 1300 posts on my blog, so it’s probably more like #1177.  But that just sounds overwhelming…so let’s go with #177 and get started with another video tutorial!

This is a terrific card layout though.  I’ve CASE’d it from the current Stampin’ Up! catalog (drop me a note to ask for yours if you don’t have one yet!) on page 104 if you want to check it out.  Or just watch the video — I’ll show you the original card at the end.

The card features the For All Things stamp set (135155) from the Holiday Catalog (browse online).  This stamp set is also the one that you’ll get with my September Stamps in the Mail Club kit.

I’ll share a few tips for fabulous collage stamping in this video – so if you ever feel like your collages just don’t come out quite right, then you’ll want to grab a pencil and take some notes as you watch!

Beware of the Potluck: Gluten-Free Yummies

Peace, Love & Cupcakes - gluten free & dairy free signs for potluck awareness, by LovenStamps

Whether it’s a peanut-free zone in the school lunchroom or a gluten-free menu at a restaurant, it’s becoming more and more common for people to have limitations on what they can eat.

And potlucks are a No Man’s Land for those who have serious allergies.

Solution?  Bring your own treats, and mark them clearly! Turns out that gluten-free or dairy-free or egg-free food doesn’t have to be disgusting.  In fact, these cupcakes I made this summer were a big hit with the gluten-eating crowd, too!

And really, who could resist a cupcake marked with a sweet sign created with the Peace, Love & Cupcakes stamp set (134162)?

Leave me a comment if you are a dairy-free or gluten-free fan!  And yes, I cheated a little on these cupcakes.  The cupcakes were from a box (don’t judge me) by Cherrybrook Kitchen, available at our grocery stores locally.

Big Birthdays: How to fit 28 signatures on a card

Zig Zag birthday card idea - Cupcake Builder Punch & Oh My Goodies by LovenStamps

Do you have occasions where a group of friends want to sign a card?  Do you wish you had more space than the inside of a regular 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card?  Then this zig-zag style card is your perfect solution!

This is a quick & easy card (Clean & Simple) that just takes a little bit of scoring.

Zig Zag Card “How-To”

  1. Cut card stock to 4″ x 12″ (yes, you’ll need to start with a 12×12″ piece or scale down for regular card stock)
  2. Score at 4″ and 8″
  3. Fold in a zig zag – that’s it!

There are a few tips for finishing up your card that I’ve shared in the video – it’s a quick one, so grab your pencil to take a couple of notes.

Cute Bag #207: Designer Paper Origami

Fold Your Own Gift Bags - recycle your scrapbooking papers! Video Tutorial from LovenStamps

Did you fold those paper cranes when you were a kid? I used to love adding them to packages or table decorations or pretty much anything.

Maybe that’s why I love this bag so much – it’s really an origami project, too! And with a clever Shaker Tag from the video I posted last week, it’s an even better project!

The bag itself is fairly simple. The finished product can be square rectangular, depending on how you fold your paper.

And I just love how easy it is to teach this bag via video tutorial!  So grab a piece of 12 x 12″ scrapbooking paper and fold along!  (Actually, you can use any size square of paper.  If you don’t have any scrapbooking paper handy, grab a square of scratch paper and give this a try while you’re watching.)

If you’re viewing via email subscription, click here to see the post & video directly on my blog or here directly on YouTube

Like this project? You’ll want the Confetti Celebration Designer Series Paper (133692).

Or make it really easy on yourself, and sign up for my August Stamps in the Mail Club. I still have a couple kits remaining!

With Stamps in the Mail Club, you’ll receive stamps ink and accessories straight to your door along with pre-cut card stock, embellishments and printed directions. And don’t forget the Video Tutorials! It’s a great way to expand your stamping collection and actually USE what you’re getting.

I’ve been offering this popular club for over 8 years. I’d love to stamp with you by mail, too!
