Blendabilities Markers 103: Flowers and Highlighted Embossing

Blendabilities Markers Tutorial: How to color and highlight embossing folders, video tutorial from LovenStamps

Have you been looking at the Blendabilities Markers in the Stampin’ Up! catalog and wondering what to do with them?

The good news is that I have 2 ways for you to try them out on this project from my November Stamps in the Mail Club.  Not only will I teach you how to color the gorgeous flower from the Choose Happiness stamp set (134198), but I’ll also show you how to use your Blendabilities to emphasize the dry embossing on your backgrounds, like with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Folder (127821).

I know!  You probably didn’t realize that your Blendabilities could be so useful for something other than just coloring!

Here’s the Video Tutorial where I teach you the “how to” with tips and tricks for both coloring and embossing highlighting.  Yes, I know it’s a bit longer than my usual videos, but I think you’ll find it worth watching.  Grab your coffee (or your Blendabilities) and kick your feet back for some stamping tutorial time.

Can’t see the video correctly?  No problem, click here to view it directly on YouTube.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel while you’re there!

Pretty nifty, right?  Can’t wait to get started with your coloring?

Here’s a quick visual tip for my coloring steps.  I like to go from light to dark with my Blendabilities Markers.

Blendabilities Markers Tutorial: My favorite way to color is from light to dark. Visit LovenStamps for the video.

Want to make the project the way I showed it on the video tutorial?  Guess what?  You can!  All you need to do is sign up for my November Stamps in the Mail Club and you’ll get all 4 projects from this month, including the stamps and Blendabilities Markers.  If you don’t already have the Memento Ink Pad, you can add it to your Stamps in the Mail Club kit at a discount.  Get the details and sign up on my page here.

Seasonally Scattered: Christmas Card #419

Seasonally Scattered: Christmas Card Design Idea by LovenStamps

I was nominated by my friend Lynsay Mahon to participate in the Creative Blog Hop – thanks Lynsay! For the Hop, I get to share any project I want, so I’m going to pop in a Christmas Card idea from one of my Stamp A Stack classes this fall.

I love the Seasonally Scattered stamp set (135023) – actually, any stamp set for the holidays that includes a little bit of flexibility (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s) makes me happy.

Actually, I recently used it for a set of anniversary cards we made for Card Ministry at my church.

Seasonally Scattered: anniversary card idea by LovenStamps

See the banner in the middle?  I love using this stamp set with a layered look.  Just stamp the background in one color, then stamp on a strip of Whisper White card stock and trim to layer over the first image.  Bonus?  You don’t have to worry much about getting your stamping straight on either layer – just adjust when you add the banner!

Okay, back to the Blog Hop – as part of the Hop I get to answer 4 questions about my style as a crafter:

1. What are you working on?

I am working on projects for my Stamps in the Mail Club – I always enjoy the challenge of coming up with four different ideas for a single stamp set and a limited set of supplies. There’s something so relaxing about not having to get up and search out other tools – just using the same supplies in a different way to create something new.

2. How does your work differ from others in your genre?

I try to keep things simple. If I look at a project and think, wow – that looks complicated, then it’s like a challenge. Is there an easier way to make that? Can I explain it simply? One of my favs is this video tutorial for the Pop-Up Box Card. I love seeing the comments from viewers about how they found a suggestion helpful or how they used the design for their own projects.

Pop-Up Box Card Made Easy: Video Tutorial by LovenStamps

3. Why do you create what you do?

Hand made = from the heart, and I love helping people learn how to create fun things, be it a card, gift or memory page. A hand stamped card is like a hug in an envelope, don’t you think? I like to think that we’re making a little difference in the world one card at a time.

4. How does your creative process work?

  1. I pick out a supply or two – maybe a stamp set or a punch.
  2. Then I get an idea for the colors I’d like to include.
  3. Next I pull the concept for a layout together in my head, or skim for inspiration from samples in the Stampin’ Up! catalog.
  4. Finally the finished project develops on my work table. Sometimes I fuss with it or add one more thing, but usually it’s done.

And to add to the Creative Blog Hop fun, I get to nominate two more bloggers. Their Creative Blog Hop posts will be posted next Monday on November 24, so be sure to check in with them then for their posts and nominations.

Mary Ellen Stites – Mary Ellen has a great eye for design and color. I always love what she creates, whether it’s an amazing looking dessert or a stamping project. We have been friends for years and she’s one of stampers on my LovenStampfuls team who inspires me.

Laura Borchert – If there is a demonstrator on our LovenStampfuls team who personifies excitement, it’s Laura! I’ve known Laura since she was a college student and I still remember her enthusiasm at the first stampin up party she attended, and it hasn’t dimmed in the years since.

Okay – back to work on more fun ideas.  This week I have three Video Tutorials to share for my November Stamps in the Mail Club, so if you’re not already subscribed to my blog, be sure to get signed up (here’s the link) and you’ll receive email updates of my posts.

Looking for supplies?  Here’s what I used for the Christmas Card at the top:

Happy Halloween: Pumpkin Pie Latte Smoothie

Pumpkin Pie Latte Smoothie Recipe - from LovenStamps

Mmmm. Tis the season for pumpkin pies! But if you’re dairy free and egg free, not to mention gluten-free, there’s not a lot in a pumpkin pie that works for you.

What does work? Coffee. Coconut milk. Pumpkin. Why not put them all together?

And who knew? I was quite sure that when I did a Google search for a recipe, I would find nothing. But turns out I’m not the only person to have this craving. I bet it’s all about this time of year.

I decided to make up my own recipe anyway though. And honestly, I was so sure it would be great, that I started writing this blog post before I even ran my blender! Safe bet that the smoothie was good though, otherwise this post would’ve been scrapped and you never would be reading it ;)

Pumpkin Pie Latte Smoothie Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut milk (I like refrigerated kind in a carton – like Silk)
  • 7 cubes of frozen pumpkin purée – about 1 cup (how to roast a pumpkin)
  • 1 cups chilled coffee (decaf for me at night!)
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Throw it all in your high-powered blender, press the smoothie button and voila! Pumpkin pie latte smoothie!  For the record, you can probably use a regular blender for this smoothie, since the pumpkin cubes don’t freeze super-hard and are much easier to blend than ice cubes.

Haven’t roasted a pumpkin in awhile?  Or ever?  I like the simple steps over at Elana’s Pantry.  I like to make up my pumpkin to have on hand, so after I roast mine, I scoop the cooked pumpkin into ice cube trays and freeze them for easy use later.

You can purchase pumpkin pie spice premixed, but I like to make up my own.  It’s so simple and I can play with the ratios.  At this time of year, I go through it pretty quickly, too.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix:

  • 4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Be sure to let me know if you try the smoothie!

And Happy Halloween to you!!

Festival of Trees: Gift Bag plus a gift to go inside

Festival of Trees: Cafe Gift Bag and 3D Tree Punch Ornaments for Stamps in the Mail Club with LovenStamps

It’s a nifty treat when you can decorate your gift bag and create your gift all at once! Did you know you can use your Tree Punch (135859) to make 3-dimensional gift tags and ornaments?  And of course you’ll need something to put your tags in, so grab your October Stamps in the Mail Club Kit (or order the supplies from my list below), open up my video tutorial, and let’s get stamping!

If you haven’t seen them in person yet, I will tell you a little bit more about the Petite Cafe Gift Bags (135826) in my video tutorial.  They’re food-safe, which means they’re lined with plastic so that cookies or other treats won’t bleed through and create unsightly grease spots.  (I’ve always wanted to use the word “unsightly!”)  The packaging is just as much a gift as what you put inside, so that grease barrier will keep your gift bag looking beautiful.

Festival of Trees and the Tree Punch - idea for gift tags or mini tree ornaments by LovenStamps

The projects feature the Festival of Trees stamp set and the coordinating Tree Punch which are conveniently available for purchase as the Festival of Trees Bundle (137640).  Or the stamp set is also included in my October Stamps in the Mail Club Kit along with all the supplies to create the projects I’m sharing in the video tutorial.

Aren’t the little ornaments sweet?  They double as gift tags – picture those cute 3-D trees attached to your packages this Christmas!

Can’t see the video correctly?  No problem, click here to view it directly on YouTube.  Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel while you’re there!

Ready to stamp?  Great!  You can order supplies from the links below, or if you’re a fan of having things come directly to you, already prepped so you can create, then you’ll want to sign up for my October SITM.

And be sure to check out all 4 of the October Stamps in the Mail Club Video Tutorials!

Today’s Crafting Joy: October Paper Pumpkin Kit

Paper Pumpkin alternate project idea by LovenStamps

Just a quick share this morning because I am in love with the October Paper Pumpkin kit!!  I’ll admit, when my box first arrived and I had that fun “Christmas morning” moment of opening the orange box and pulling back the tissue paper, I wasn’t immediately wow’d.  But guess what? I started stamping and just made 40 note cards from my kit (I added the Notecards & Envelopes (107311)) and I STILL have 6 pie boxes left over!

Don’t know about Paper Pumpkin? It’s a monthly creative escape delivered right to your doorstep for just $19.95 per month (Yes! Shipping is free!).  The stamps, ink and pre-cut papers are all included, ready for you to pull out and stamp.  All you need to add is scissors to make the suggested project!

There are some amazing pieces in this month’s kit.  And to save you from my mistake, yes, those tiny little striped strips are self-adhesive.  No, you don’t have to try to put SNAIL on the back of them… (hello, Meg?) :)

If you haven’t subscribed to Paper Pumpkin yet, you can still get a subscription.  Just visit my site here, and you’ll automatically select me as your demonstrator.  Or use the regular link and be sure to pick me (Meg Loven, IL) as your demo.

This actual kit shipped to Paper Pumpkin subscribers in October, so you may have missed it.  But good news!  If you really want it, you can get it (while supplies last) as a refill kit (minus the stamps/ink – just the card stock pieces & embellishments).  But refill kits are only available for order to Paper Pumpkin subscribers.

No worries though – you probably want to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin anyway!  So subscribe to Paper Pumpkin via my site here, and then you can place your online order through my store for the October Sweet As Pie Refill Kit (136922).
